VW93 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) I picked up a bottle of Elmer's clear school glue today. Has anyone used it for flocking and did you thin it ? Edited September 7, 2015 by VW93
wilderness1989 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) FYI - I use paint the color of the flocking. Please let us know how the Elmer's works out? Edited September 7, 2015 by wilderness1989
Snake45 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I don't see why it wouldn't work. If it doesn't, you can just wash it all out with hot water and start over.If you want/need to thin it, hot water is again what you want to use. And it will take much LESS of it than you'd think. Maybe as little as just a few large drops.
angelo7 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 It worked for me and no thinning or anything.
Jon Haigwood Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I have used a few times with embossing powder then painted it.
hgbben Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I use it straight with a brush. Try to evenly cover the surface that you want to flock.
Tom Geiger Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I think it's more a question of how it will age over time. Since white glue doesn't really attach itself to plastic the way paint or model glues do, will it peel up in a few years after experiencing seasonal changes of temperature and humidity?
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I use plain old Elmers glue thinned just a little & then use colored embossing powder over it.I paint the area to be flocked in a similar color first. Steve
Nacho Z Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I have used plain old white Elmer's glue, thinned a little. As others have said, just brush it on to the areas you want to flock. If you get a little too much on you can always let it dry and trim it off with a hobby knife.
Helper Monkey Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I personally use PVA from Lineco. It dries clear and very flexible. The reason I use it is because i have a giant 32oz bottle of the stuff that I use for book binding and I paint using acrylics instead of enamels so it sticks to acrylics pretty good.
