IIRC on the show Hutch referred to it as the Tomato...maybe I'll try and catch up on the show this winter, haven't seen it in over 30 years, liked it as a kid back in the day.  I liked the movie also, Ben Stiller was hilarious as usual...

I'd like to see one built. It may be low-if, but at least most of it looks right. If this is the formula it will take for me to get a Bluesmobile, I'm in.

How correct is this interior for the '72 Gran Torino? I'm not as concerned with the pattern on the seats as I would be the dash. I might need one of these for a Jo Han '72 Tornio body I have...

(soon) After the pics...

can you just kinda throw it together so we can all see what it really looks like? :)

ok...I was thinking it looked sorta snapperish and could be mocked up easily.  I would not  want you to trash your nearly new kit :D

A very minor point..wonder why they didn't do the interior in black like the chassis...I believe the 1-1 had a black interior.

You know..for the kids n newbies.

yes you're right...I wasn't paying attention to the sprue locations. :(

what besides the hood is apparently missing from the red sprue?  mirrors? door panels maybe?

The larger top sprue is only missing the hood.  The lower one had its left side vacated to mock up the door panels for the interior tub.  If you look to the left of where the IP is positioned, you'll see the mirror housings.  Chrome tree has reflectors lower left in that same pic, I think.

Litte red sprue top left has corners for the front bumper filler area.

Overall, it looks good. Hopefully they will eventually do a white plastic version. But, for the doing the Tomato, red plastic is fine.

Thanks for the Preview, Chuck!

Thanks for all of the good info Chuck. I'm still debating on whether I'd be better off waiting until Revell does a stock one. Hopefully in white plastic. I like this generation Torino. But, I'm not a big fan of the S&H modifications. The wheels I could live with, but the jacked up rear and multi-carb setup, really make me want to wait on this one. Do we know for sure that Revell will offer a more stock version of this kit down the road? What are the odds? If they are good, I'll be passing on this version. I want the same car with a normal stance, single carburator, and hopefully Magnum 500 wheels.

I think it  would be very easy to lower the back, find a single carb setup and the Magnum wheels.

IF this kit is a hit, I would think it would stay as is until the S&H deal runs out.

Could be a long wait for other versions...a period NASCAR version interests me but I think it's highly unlikely from Revell.

Agreed.....with the somewhat simple rear suspension altering the 'spring'  post should be easy.

And it may be a while before V2 comes around....

I'm thinking lowered on 1/24th magnums n chubby tires , bumpers narrowed and tucked back and nice paint.  Like Ford might have made it minus the bumper/emissions rules with a modern stance.

Yeah, I figure I can find a single carb setup and Ford air cleaner in my parts box, a set of Magnum wheels from the '70 Torino or another source, whitewalls, not a big deal.  I'm skeptical as to whether they will do a second version, can't see a plain Torino selling very well.   Though ERTL did that when they did the 1:18th S&H 10-15 years ago...

There's bazillions of alternative induction setups for the 351W, assuming it's close to accurate. Most of the stuff for 289-302-5.0 Ford engines should fit or be VERY close...assuming you don't want to swap in a 351C, which should be pretty easy too. Lowering the tail is a 5-minute job, and swapping wheels/tires is about as easy as it gets.

Lots and lots of optional ways to build on this one.

Anybody know what the significance of the "0609" number is on the sprue?

Overall it looks pretty good, but pics of it built will show a lot more.

The dash looks good for a 72, as does the rest of the interior. For the 72 Sport, the side panels will be incorrect, but could be cut out of the tub and changed with some plastic. To be more correct the dash needs some work since the pad does not extend to the windshield. Overall dash layout and shape is good.

Be sure the 1/4 windows do not align with the door, they actually install ahead of the door and at a little angle. That could have been a part of the "looking too small" in the test shots.

It definitely looks as if this was started in the 80's or so and now comes to completion

It has enough of detail for me, just want it to look "right" when built.

I have attached pics just as an FYI for the side glass, dash comments and 72 Sport interior comments. The interior rear panels would be easy to replicate.

"0609" has no apparent bearing on the stock number of the kit (85-4023), so maybe it's an internal inventory number for the mold or tree.  First chrome sprue I grabbed from the '29 A has a tab reading "0809 B", fwiw.

(go back to the hood hinge shot and you'll see the top pad matches Andy's reference pretty well.)

More to come...
