Danno Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 FYI ~ Arizona hasn't used amber beacons on its Highway Patrol vehicles since the 80s. Here's what they looked like, 'way back in the late 70's. Interesting look.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 When lit up, that was the only way I could tell the law from freeway angels. I know Az law has red and blue LED lights. You can see them from 50 miles away.
Atmobil Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) Here in Norway we have had "stealth" police cars for many years. The traffic police use cars called "civilian police cars" Here is one example: The picture come from this website: https://sivilpoliti.net/ The only way to tell that these are policecars is when you or someone else gets pulled over you will see the flashing blue LEDs in the grille and rear window. The police are very secretive about the identity of the cars as they are used to take out seriuos traffic offenders that are used to spotting a policecar from a long distance. The policecars are used in several different ways, a lot of the time they will be driving around and catch offenders they spot and sometimes they are used to have "stealthy" radarcontrols where they will be parked in a way that they can not be easily spotted. And if you wonder what a normal policecar look like around here, this is one example: Edited September 27, 2015 by Atmobil
AzTom Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 They have been called Plain Wrappers for as long as I can remember. Here in Buckeye they have an all black Mustang with dark windows, no markings or lights visible. I see DPS on I-10 in plain wrappers With someone pulled over almost every time I go to town. Most common is a maroon SUV and a blue one.
The70judgeman Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Since the demise of the Crown Vic I've noticed that the Wisconsin State Patrol has recently acquired Ford Explorer's and Dodge Charger's. I've seen both as "marked" squads periodically, but it's the unmarked that really are the sneaky ones. I know of two Charger's, a dark blue one and a silver one. Standard "chrome clad" wheels, no visible lights, and no push bars. Also, there is an oddball, a black Ford Escape that looks like any other Escape on the road as well. All three have tinted windows(probably to hide the Sate Patrol shoulder patch on the troopers uniforms from easy view) and all probably based out of the Waukesha Headquarters. I have not seen any "ghosted" graphics on any patrol vehicles in any PD area that I have to travel through on a regular basis though.
Chuck Most Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 You'll know. If it's an actual cop and you don't stop, he'll inundate you with marked units quickly enough. If you still wonder . . . keep going. Actual cops use stop-sticks and Startrackers, and the marked unit inundation will resemble Sugarland Express. Or, you can use your smart phone to call up the local news and see yourself on TV via the traffic chopper. But what if you do something very insane and uncalled for... like, say, safely pull to the shoulder and stop immediately.
