I'm amazed that Round 2 is messing with this kit, especially since they have so much that they could be working with!  Maybe they have some contractual obligation to the seller of the Lindberg molds? I'm sure that's the same party that produced these kits for them in the USA

Wow. Talk about lipstick on a pig. That kit is terrible by today's standards, looks like maybe a few parts have changed. I have the version with the pinkish-red version on the box-top. The photo-etch is an interesting addition, if you're into rat rods.

Let me list the issues:

-all the parts are toy-like. It has a "hemi", a "quickchange", a "deuce grille", and so on...but all of the parts are chunky and ill-proportioned. The windshield frame is slab-like, the rear nerf bar is "D"-shaped in cross-section rather than round bar stock, the wire wheels stick out of the tires, and frame is about as simple as you can possibly get. The bench seat is molded to the body...

So if you have a hankering for a retro build, it IS possible to build something nice out of this kit, it's just that it will look like very dated in terms of detail and accuracy.

I debate that it's art.

Why Round2 is trying to unload rubbish like this on us is totally beyond me.
Do they want to go bankrupt?

I highly doubt that Round 2 would go bankrupt, however when they see the VERY slow sales of this kit I'm sure they'll get the message.

Because there are plenty of gullible/ill-informed people that will buy it assuming it is 'new'...

I only buy lindberg when im looking for a cheap simple yet frustrating kit. or if they have a subject matter that i want and cant find elsewhere. the grille on the kit looks cool though.

ie: lindberg '34 roadster/pickup rat rod, this kit dates from the very late '50s/early '60s &, by today's standards, is seriously inaccurate & toy-like. however, it is it is a period model of a period kit. therein lies it's value.

the addition of the pe stuff is the only attempt to update it since the 1st issue. same with their channeled 32 pickup & their hot rod T bucket & 32 roadster. decals & box art help define the era of the issue, but the plastic hasn't changed.

Yea, not much in that box art is '34.

More than you think!  1934 was the last year for a Ford roadster pickup--and the 1934 Ford pickup cabs were a carryover from 1932-33.

It's not newly produced product.  Before he sold Lindberg out to Round2, Jody Keener had his factory run the heck out of every usable tool in the place.  When Round2 bought up Lindberg, there was a ready made stockpile of kits to be sold off.  Doubtful that Round2 is taking much of a bath on these.

This kit IS a Round 2 item.  They have started repackaging Lindberg kits; mainly the aircraft, but also cars like the '66 Chevelle and a couple of the ex-Pyro 1/32 scale kits.

I can't imagine any kids would be interested in this kit, more an older crowd...

It's just that younger kids are more apt to accept poorly-scaled, oddly-proportioned and toy-like garbage...'course, then again...;)

EDIT: But the more I look at the green one above, the more tempted I am to buy one just to see what CAN be done with it. I do enjoy a challenge...B)

There you go Bill. I like your "EDIT:"/second paragraph above. This more of what we need here. Okay, we know the kit is not the best. It's old and ancient. But, can it be built into something interesting? Dave's green example shows that it can.  It just may take a little work.

At the same time, I'd like to know/see more about this kit. From what little I'm getting here, it sounds like a kit I will be staying away from. I've never been a big fan of roadster pickups, old lindberg kits, or photo etched parts. But see in some more details of the kit could change my mind.

I'm still waiting for Round 2 to restore the enclosed cab pickup truck back to AMT. With the original box art and all the other goodies Round 2 likes to stick in their reissued AMT and MPC kits. I love that trend. And because it, I've purchased several kits I've passed over in the past. The "Lindberg" version of the old AMT enclosed pickup truck has been one of those. I've thought about the kit a few times. It's cool. But, it's not kit I was really hot on. And, the Lindberg box art did nothing to really get me hot for the kit. The retro Round 2/AMT box art and contents will get me to buy the kit.

Back to the roadster pickup of this thread. It looks kind of cool on the box art. Kudos to Round 2 for trying to make this kit a bit more interesting. But again, the subject and the box art are not enough to get me to part with my money on this one.

Calling it junk is a bit harsh. 'Vintage challenge' might be more correct.  Don't know that I'll buy one......having a built version don't 'need' one..... but who knows.  Another view. And yes...I built it over a weekend as a fun build to see what I could make of what was in the box....

You mean like the Ford hardtop and Indy pace car convertible kits, or the '66 Chevelle SS kit, and there are some fairly nice airplane kits if you build more than cars. True, most all of the older stuff is just good for the kids who love putting firecrackers in things and blowing them up, but they have produced some pretty good kits so to say that everything the produce is cheap and frustrating isn't really true, and they are the ones that are now producing the old Testors Boyds kits, and even though they aren't totally up to date, they are nice builds, and are a good source for some 1/24th scale parts and pieces for making some of the older Monogram kits a little more up to modern technology.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. The '53 Fords are real sweethearts and build up beautifully...as do the Mopars. I haven't built the Chevelle, but it's on my list to get fairly soon. The GeeBee airplane kit (ex-Pyro, like the Cord, '48 Lincoln and Auburn) is about the only large-scale game in town for that (it's about 1/26 even though it's marked 1/32), and though it has some inaccuracies (like visible wing ribs on what were actually smooth plywood-skinned wings) it's pretty well scaled...except for the little pilot figure.

I can see this kinda-'34 RPU being the basis fir something custom and cool...and I already have a home picked out for that PE grille.B)

As badly contorted some rat rods are, it might be the first time that kit has been issued when it has been somewhat accurate.

I'm buying a couple, just because I know it will annoy the clenched-sphincter "serious adult scale model hobbyist" types. :P

I'll save the scaled line-drawings, digital calipers, and rivet counting apparatus for a more involved project.
