Kenroadrunner Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Hey!I just registered, as I have to start digging-up information on selling models cars...and yes, I'm aware this is a Trade-Only forum, but I figure it;ll also be a good resource to find out what I need to know, I am handling the estate of a friend who died. He has about 16 1:18 model racing cars, from Minichamps, Action, Hot Wheels, GMP, ERTL and Kyosho. I have checked eBay and found that they are worth anywhere from $20.00 to $300.00. I buy the occasional item on eBay but I don't want to sell there. I am experienced with Internet selling, as I have been selling high end audio equipment on-line for 15 years. I just want to find a popular spot to sell these model cars. The pace recommended on this website: www.eModelCars.com doesn't seem to be used very much - lots of old (2014) postings. I'd appreciate any suggestions that you may have. Thanks
Tom Geiger Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 eBay would be the place. Check the completed auctions for a realistic price on any of the units you have. Note that you will find the same car listed on eBay for $100, $50 and $20. And then you'll find one that ended without a bid for $10. The bottom has fallen out of the 1/18 scale market. I've had two people approach me with estate hoards of these in the past year. The first one I turned down buying a 300 car collection for $5 a car. I just didn't see any profit to be made. On the second collection I was pleased to tell the owner that his Franklin and Danbury Mint cars had some value, but the rest were all $10-20 cars. Good luck!
1930fordpickup Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 As Tom has stated most do not have much value. The GMP cars depending on what they are will move easier on ebay.
Harry P. Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 OK.. I have to ask. You write in your post that you know you posted this in the wrong place. The Trade section is for trading, not selling, as it clearly says... and you obviously clearly understood that. Yet you posted this there anyway. What gives?
Harry Joy Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I would recommend finding a local hobby shop/collectible store who might be able to buy the collection for resale.

Harry P. Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 No, he wasn't listing models for sale, but asking where he should sell them. Either way, it doesn't belong in the TRADE saction. TRADES belong in the TRADING section. It's not rocket science.
