Easily one of the most frustrating kits I've ever worked on...

Started it about 15 years ago, life got in the way and it sat as a painted shell since this summer.

Had a really difficult time with the decals and ended up using nail polish for the pink and cutting out the sponsor decals from the second sheet... The decals must have been old, I couldn't seem to get them right. Several went foggy after applying them, no matter what I did. Warm water, slight bit of Dawn, etc... Said to myself they were good enough and cleared over them. From a distance, they look ok, but not one of my better jobs. Still some deals yet to be installed but they are all small and hopefully will work alright.

Putting the chassis together is something else! I've built maybe a dozen Nascar kits but with this one nothing seemed to fit. Lots of trimming, lots of fitting and lots of re-gluing... AAARRRGGGGGGHHHHH!  :)

Ran out of camera batteries, so the chassis pics will have to wait till tomorrow,

Hopefully the whole kit will be finished then.

The pictures look good. You didn't say if these are the kit decals or aftermarket ones. I can see kit decals giving problems because of age.

Your workmanship looks really good.

That haze/silvering is probably the decal glue that got trapped under the decals.

That era of R/M decals had some usability issues due to the printing process back then.

No solvents worked to help them conform, but you were on the right track with heat.

And the decal glue left white gunk that needed to be cleaned up before it set too long.  I've had it leave marks on enamel paints too.  At least a clear coat resolved that.
