cobraman Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Now that I finished the Sunny Cobra I thought I would work on this one next.
jrherald420 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Both the ones ive built in the past have very warped chassis and suspension. Never could get them to sit right.
cobraman Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Thanks for the heads up Richard. I will watch out for that.
louie Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Cobraman, very good choice for your next build. I've personally have always liked this kit. I have built one and believe that I didn't have any issues with warping, but every kit can be different. I was away from the hobby for a long time but would always and I mean always look at the models in the hobby section of any stores that I was at through out the year's and remember seeing this kit when it was released. Reminds me of a modern day Cobra with a few twists, one being the Olds motor which never bothered me but then I didn't have a hundred thousand to shell out either. Better off just building the model ( I do believe much cheaper ) hahaha. I look forward to following this one and appreciate you sharing this with us. Thank you. Jeff
cobraman Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Thanks Jeff. I have started it and it seems a bit complex but so far fitting together well. Need to pick a color.
Kennyboy Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I say True Blue pearl with white stripes Ray. (Viper GTS style)Good luck with the build.......for me I have always used this kit for parts (which it is great for!)
Jhedir6 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Ray,Personally I love the Series 1. The only draw back to it was they never did it as a coupe, which to me should of been a no brainer. I have a couple of these on the go too, but with all the other things I'm working on I wont be able to get to mine after the new year. Will be watching this one closely. If I might suggest, a nice metallic red with silver stripes, kind of like the reverse of whats on the box art. David
horsepower Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I've seen a couple in blue with silver stripes, But dare to be different, go with a lime green pearl, and maybe gold stripes.
Sport Suburban Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I finished one and have a second one that I messed up the paint job. I recently started redoing it. Test fit every step as I had some parts that were finicky. I remember the hoses interfering with the hood closing.
Len Woodruff Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) I am going to cut the front end/Hood off and put it on the front of a C4 Vette to make a Callaway Racer. This is courtesy of "KennyBoy" on this site. Edited December 15, 2015 by Len Woodruff
Kennyboy Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Which reminds me....I REALLY gotta get back on that! Thanks Len.
Len Woodruff Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Which reminds me....I REALLY gotta get back on that! Thanks Len. He, He, He. Subtle huh?
Greg Pugh Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 You can check out the one I built by clicking on my fotki link below. It went together pretty well for the most part. There was something under the hood that gave me some grief (I can't remember what exactly) but overall, a pretty nice kit.
cobraman Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 I checked yours out............. very nice work. Were all these cars silver ? Mine will not be.
Jhedir6 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I checked yours out............. very nice work. Were all these cars silver ? Mine will not be. nope, there's some metallic blue ones, not sure if its Guardsman blue, but its close, seen some black w/silver stripes/ w/gold stripes and seen one with burgundy stripes. Red w/white stripes, yellow w/silver stripes.....you get the idea, but yes, seems a large majority of them were silver with lots of different colour stripesDavid

Here are a few facts. They are all 1999 models even though they were built from 1998-2005. Officially 249 were built as new cars and they were all silver at first. These 249 have 17 digit Vin numbers. Shelby Sold the rights to build this car to Venture Corporation and they took over production. When the 5 year license expired they kept making them as incomplete component cars just like the Cobras. Still as 1999 models but now with CSX5000 vin numbers. These later cars can be any color. Venture eventually went bankrupt and Shelby bought what was left back for cheap. These are also mostly GM components and electronics.
geemoney Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I saw a silver one at a Shelby convention, when the cars were new, the owner revved it up, it sounded really cool, a lot different sounding that an aroura!
cobraman Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Got some time to work on this some more. Chassis and interior is just about done. Waiting now for weather to be a bit warmer before I spray the body. This is a pretty nice kit that goes together nicely....... so far !
wayne swayze Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 This looks awesome Ray! A lot more complex than others. Your detail painting looks great! Hope you find the colours for the body that knocks it out of the park!
cobraman Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Thanks Wayne. For good or bad it's going to be chrome yellow.
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Looking good. Yellow shoukd look great.
