Snake45 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 New issue of Chrysler Power (just bought it at Walmart) has some excellent photos of the restored car, including interior and engine pics. I think this is the most/best pics I've ever seen of this car. Good ref for anyone planning to build a model of it.
Snake45 Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 OK. Can we some of them here? [sic] Sure! Just get permission from the magazine and post it here, and then I'll be glad to spend an afternoon scanning them, uploading them to Photobucket, and posting them. Just to save you $4.99. No problem.
High octane Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 How 'bout these........................................................
iBorg Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 How close is that to the Hemi Under Glass re-issue?
Snake45 Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 How close is that to the Hemi Under Glass re-issue? I think you could use the glass and part of the engine. Entire body and chassis are completely different. '65 Cuda bodies are available. I think someone might even have an AWB one ready to turn into this car, but I'm not sure about that.
vintagedragcrazy Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I think it's mcw or something like that does that body in resin it actually has most of the kit I can look tomorrow to see what alls in it if anyone wants to know real nice piece of resin though.vince
iBorg Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 MCW shows the Cuda A F/X. I've had a couple of their resins before and can attest they are of highest quality. Anyone have a source for decals? Top quality injected Hemi motor?
vintagedragcrazy Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I can't remember who I bought mine from but I know they made a lot of nascar decals and a couple drag sheets.vince
vintagedragcrazy Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Hey mike I looked them up and you won't believe this but it called mikes decals and they are $6 a sheetvince
10thumbs Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Thanks Nick for posting those. I was kind of hoping to see some pics when a new topic is posted.
High octane Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I saw the car last month at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals Show in the Chicagoland area, and over the years it's a show "not to be missed."
6bblbird Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) Looking at the photo below, I wonder if this car is "finished". As is, it would not pass tech even in '65! No seat belts or shoulder harness (required). Seat is not securely braced. No headrest (required), and I can't believe that the pictured roll bar would not have a cross brace (to support the seat back and mount the shoulder harness (not required in '65). Upon closer examination, I believe that I see a piece of tubing that may have been a mounting point for the belts. I will say this....That car is downright scary from today's viewpoint! junkyardjeff Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Is the car a recreation as I thought the original was buried somewhere on their property
6bblbird Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 No, this is the actual altered wheelbase car that raced most of '65 and into '66. It is the second 'cuda that Petty Enterprises built. The first one was destroyed in a fatal accident during a match race. That one was buried behind the shop.WF

A second car needed to be built because of prior match race commitments. The car shown is the second car after restoration.
Snake45 Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 The only difference between the 65-66 that I'm aware of is the back bumper and lower quarter panel.Grille, front bumper, front fenders, whole rear quarters (wheel opening shape), taillights, etc. The doors, roof, hood and trunk lid might be the same between the two, but I'm not even sure of that.
gtx6970 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 lots of differences between 1965 versus 19661965 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plymouth-Barracuda-Formula-S-/281892074904?forcerrptr=true&hash=item41a213b598:g:Yy4AAOSwHPlWeZ11&item=281892074904 1966 - http://www.velocityjournal.com/images/org/2012/581/pm1966barracuda58149429.jpg

Daddyfink Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Both cars are '65 models, they did not build a '66 We can polish that out...
CRANMAN1 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 that isnt petty's is it? Had read or heard that after the accident that killed someone he had the car burried.
angrydawg Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 First car also had a custom built torsion bar front suspension(Torsion bars moved to allow extra clearance for headers). Second car had a straight front axle with leaf spring suspension.
