Mike77
What do you guys use to best replicate Caterpillar yellow on engines? I've seen "dark yellow" in the hobby stores and at least the label on the can looks relatively close. Is there and actual Cat yellow available? Please keep in mind I'm talking about rattle can or bottle paint. Thanks in advance!
lapazleo
Yes there is. I find rattle cans of Cat yellow at farm stores like tractor supply rural king farm n fleet etc also some auto parts places like napa.
Petetrucker07
Some auto parts stores call it Equipment Yellow. Or you can by your local CAT service shop and buy CAT yellow.

Mike77
Thanks guys, I appreciate it! I guess I needed to think outside the box...I was only thinking along the lines of model paints, I never thought to look in farm equipment stores. We have a couple of Farm & Fleets nearby, and I'll check for the Rustoleum too.
Old Buckaroo
I have found those copy cat "Cat" colors to spray rater heavily. Be sure to prime your engine first and spray from a distance to just mist it on - that is how I have gotten my best results. I will also finish off with a dull coat spray as the glossy shine from the spray paint on a small surface does not look right to my eye. The thickness of the spray is usually why I try to avoid the big store bought spray cans whenever possible, but sometimes there's no other option. I used rattle can Chevy engine enamel on a 1/18 diecast Vette once and even though it went on thicker I was still able to make it come out nice. Canso65
Thanks for the tip guys. I was with Mike trying to find Cat yellow. Now I know.Mike, your Vette is beautiful.Rob
Old Buckaroo
I found this brand affordable and the color is "old Cat yellow" I did tone it down with a dull coat as I feel the engine should not outshine the paint of the truck. It was very glossy when dry. Not much shine on the real thing
skulls
Honestly, just hit any truck dealership and they will have the paint in stock. for the genuine CAT yellow paint its only about $12 a can (Canadian) and it hasthe really good fan style nozzle on them so it doesn't spray to heavy. mistermodel
tamiya camel yellow is real close.primer and then a thick engine paint might hide too much detail for your liking.not sure how picky you are Edited February 17, 2016 by mistermodel
Mike77
I picked up a can of "Caterpillar Yellow" spray the other day at Big R for $6. As soon as I can I'll test it but it should work fine. Edited February 17, 2016 by Mike77
