CFMgarage Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) I'm sure a lot of you know about one of the biggest names in extreme sports, legendary BMX Icon and then-turned Rally/rallycross driver, Dave Mirra, passed away yesterday night...He was only 41 years old and they're saying it was an "apparent suicide." He was pretty much the BMX version of Tony Hawk. I remember playing all the Dave Mirra bmx video games when I was young and he even motivated me to try the sport and buy my first real bmx, with the pegs and everything... Rest in Peace Dave. Petetrucker07 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Saw this too last night. What a shock. I remember watching his BMX stuff and the video games.
fog cutter Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 more sadness for his children who have to live with this
Roadrunner Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Never heard of him. Me neither, until yesterday. 41 seems way too young to go though.
10thumbs Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I don't know anything of him either. Don't need to. If the dude did a suicide number, that is not "passing away". That just sucks. Poor family members or loved ones.
iamsuperdan Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Dave Mirra was a little after my time. I was a BMX kid when guys like Eddie Fiola were still riding.Still, I knew who Dave was. Surprised me, he seemed to be pretty well rounded.
Quick GMC Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Dave Mirra is big time in the BMX, X Games, video game world, etc. He raced cars and started boxing as well. There are theories that he may have been suffering from CTE, like football and other professional sports players. Junior Seau, HOF linebacker for the Chargers killed himself and shot himself in the chest and left a note requesting that his brain be studied. CTE can make people do crazy things. This CTE thing is starting to snowball. They just outlawed youth soccer allowing children under 10 years of age to use their head to hit the ball. Dave Mirra was a well rounded, stand up guy. He was really good to his fans. He was a good dude.
