Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) Just under one year ago I posted this build as it was the closest model I had in the "need to complete " stack. If you haven't followed my WIP thread, I can tell you this was the most challenging model I have ever built. The body from the cowl back and beltline up is almost completely scratch built. The interior is entirely scratch built. I wanted to build a model J Duesenberg with the earlier style updraft carburetor, as the car had on it when i saw it at Auburn so I had to scratch build that and the exhaust manifold. I fully wired, plumbed the car and added brake master cylinder and the associated lines. By far the most difficult aspect of the build was the three dimensional beltline molding. Still to do is adding windshield wipers and license plates. I also have to touch up some paint and clear coat some small areas. Despite this, I am calling this one done. Your comments are welcome. mi Edited February 21, 2016 by Eric Macleod wrong word
XJ6 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Beautiful just A Beautiful Subject and very nicely done Model ??
bbowser Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Outstanding, love seeing an alternate body style! Is this based on the Monogram kit? What scale?
'70 Grande Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 A beautiful, beautiful build! The subject-matter alone is outstanding and your execution is excellent! This one deserves to have more pics posted; can you show us some engine pics as we'd love to see more!
wayne swayze Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 A real beauty! I love cars from this era. Youhave done a great job!
Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Thanks all oF you for the compliments. Here are a couple more photos.
mr moto Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 That's a great build of an unusual classic. You said that you saw it at Auburn so I assume you mean the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana. I've been there myself and it's the most mind-blowing collection of automobiles and historic memerobilia that I can imagine. Every car enthusiast should see it.
Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Engine passenger side with scratch built manifold.
Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 I still have some touch up to do under here but this gives you a good idea of the undercarriage.
Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 I agree with your observations about the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum but I actually saw the car during the Labor day weekend Parade of Classics. Fra nk Kleptz drove car 2375/ J354 in unfinished form through the streets of Auburn giving me a chance to photograph the car in ways I never could have done at another time. I took tons of photos which were great references later on. You can see why I felt like I HAD to build the car.
charlie8575 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 That really did come out nicely, Eric.Rather interesting- the body itself is so short in proportion to the hood! Charlie Larkin
Harry P. Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 That's real nice! I love to see these classics posted...
Eric Macleod Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Thanks for all the compliments folks. This was a tough but very gratifying model. I think there may be some sort of show in April somewhere in the Midwest (anybody know? ) and I hope to debut the car there.
Eric Macleod Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 I really appreciate all the compliments folks. I still have a couple minor things to do but hope to debut the car at a show in Grand Rapids, MI.
CometMan Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Very, very well done Eric! Way to hang in there on a long build.
