CarLover Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 HeyWhere can i find reference site dor thw cobra 427? Especially engine(all of it, not inside the car) and chassis. Thanks
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 A lot depends on which car you're doing, whether it was raced or not, and when and by whom. Here's a thread with some good general feference photos. Unfortunately, the links to the two Fotki albums go to "account suspended" pages. I guess paying for something is alien to folks way of thinking. You can also do a Google image search for "427 cobra reference photos". There are thousands available.

CarLover Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Its a model... I looking for a real one Edited March 6, 2016 by CarLover
Matt Bacon Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Well, I did look into this when I was doing mine, and indeed found that picture. I can't find any evidence of blue engine blocks in original 427 S/Cs as built, just black... though there's precious little documentation of that in pictures, especially out of the car. Trouble is, 99% of what you can find on Google is from companies building or rebuilding Cobra engines, and they obviously go with making them super nice to press all the right buttons in someone who's paying top dollar for them. As far as I can see, though, black and silver are the dominant colours of original engines, not blue, white and chrome...bestest,M.[completely expecting someone who knows much better than me to come along any minute with 50+ photos of a start to finish restoration of a barn-find original 427 S/C to prove me utterly wrong...]
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Its a model... I looking for a real oneWell...and taking into consideration what Matt has said too...I thought you were looking for clear photos showing engine details. My mistake.According to some knowledgeable Ford guys I know, the 427 engines were black through about the early middle of 1965, and then switched over to the familiar corporate Ford engine blue.So...apparently it's simply going to depend on when your model is supposed to have been built that will determine correct engine color.

CarLover Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Thank you all! I need this pics also as a color reference(where the blue ends ans other colors begin) and engine details, so eventually i satisfied with all those photos and info. What the differences in the body all over the years? Well, I did look into this when I was doing mine, and indeed found that picture. Ace-Garageguy Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Bear in mind that this photo shows an engine with blue-painted cast-iron heads and water pump... While this one has aluminum cylinder heads... Production-line engines originally fitted to Cobras would have had painted iron heads, the same color as the block, and not the aluminum-color heads as shown on the (somewhat inaccurate) CAD model I posted above. CarLover Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 Here's a general overview. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_Cobra which year is the mpc 1/16?
Force Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) I don't know the year of the MPC kit and it's hard to tell as most of the 427 Cobra's looks the same, but it's a 427 Cobra and the 427 engine was produced between 1963 and 1968 and the original 427 Cobra car was produced between 1965 and 1967-68, so the very eary engines would be black and later would be blue if Shelby didn't repaint them. Many 427 Cobra's were delivered with 428 engines after 1966 as there were delivery problems with the expensive difficult to manufacture 427, they look alike and the difference on paper is only 1 cui (it's in fact really 3 cui as the 427 was closer to 425 cui), the 427 has 4.23 bore and 3.78 stroke and the 428 has 4.13 bore and 3.98 stroke so the casting of the 428 blocks was cheaper and more forgiving than the large bore 427 blocks. The 427 High Riser was 1964 only, before it was Low Riser and after Medium Riser, the Side Oiler came 1965, the 427 SOHC came 1964.The Ford teams raced the 427 in NASCAR until the Boss 429 arrived in 1969 and it took over as the main race engine for Ford in NASCAR racing until the 358 cui limit was introduced.
