curt raitz Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) This is going to be a 1/25th scale model of the 1954 Lincoln Capri Ray Crawford raced in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. Ray along with co-piloto Enrique finished 1st in the Stock Car Class. R&R Resins (no longer in exists) produced a resin curbside model of both the 1953 and 1954 Lincoln Capri. I was not able to locate the 1954 kit but was able to find a 1953 kit. No big deal, how much difference is there really! Definitely found out the difference when the kit arrived, more on that later. Instead of doing just a curbside of Ray's Lincoln, I decided add chassis and driveline detail to the model. I used the Lindberg 1953 Ford Victoria kit for the chassis, wheels and tires and the Monogram '57 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon kit for the engine. I found a set of decals for the car from "Platto's Place" and my buddy Steve filled in with a couple of extra decals. Now on to the difference between a 1953 and 1954 Lincoln Capri. The chrome trim on the sides and the front and rear bumpers are completely different. I removed the hood, firewall and chassis side panels from the resin body. To be replaced with the same parts from the 1953 Ford. Also removed the '53 trim from the body. After removing the '53 trim from the body, I used really small half-round plastic strip for the '54 trim. More to come...the NNL West is calling! Edited March 7, 2016 by curt raitz 3
cobraman Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Interesting project. Good luck, I will be looking in.
Ramfins59 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 That is a great subject Curt. I would love to find either a '53 or '54 Lincoln for my 1950's car collection.
John Goschke Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Very cool project! The '52 - '55 "Road Race" Lincolns were great cars.Good start so far. If there's a way you could use the windshield frame and vent windows from the Lindberg '53 Ford hardtop it would be much more correct than whatever R&R used as their starting point. CometMan Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Very nice subject, Curt, and great progress so far. I'll be watching with interest!
GlueTube Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Great subject matter and an ambitious build. I will follow the build with interest. RegardsBrian Kroon
Gluebomber Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Great project, Curt. I've recently gotten interested in the Carrera Panamericana and the Lincolns were hugely successful in those races.I'll be interested to see how the Patto's Place decals work out. I've had mixed success with them, but have seen other modelers use them and they looked great. Good Luck! Edited March 8, 2016 by Gluebomber
curt raitz Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Thank you for the positive responses on this model. I was able to squeeze in some time to finish a few things on the Lincoln. First I had to tackle the bumpers, very key parts to make this model come to life. I made resin copies of the 1953 front and rear bumpers. I added the red resin taillights to the rear bumper. Here is the completed '54 rear bumper (right) next to the '53 bumper (left). The Chrome finish is provided by Alclad. Also here is the completed '54 front bumper (right) next to the '53 bumper (left). Next was modifying the '53 Ford chassis to fit the resin body of the lincoln. The body, chassis, hood and dash primed and ready for paint. The body and hood painted ready for some bare-metal foil work. The foil work is done... Wheels and tires painted and mounted. Now onto finishing the interior, engine and decals... c'ya

So I stayed with the R&R Resin bodythanx
W-409 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Wow this is a cool project! I've never seen one of these built and you're doing a great work with yours. That new side trim looks just right and I like those new bumpers too. Nice work with the conversion. Looks like the color laid on very nicely too. Keep it coming.
mr moto Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 This is a great project. I actually saw some of the new Pan Am in 2013 and it was a great experience. I'll be looking forward to your finished model.

Phildaupho Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Great project. I have always really been attracted to Panamericana racers.
