oldcarfan Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) In the late 70s, Monogram did a pretty great line of curb side cars. (I wish they would reissue them, hint hint.) One of my favorites was the Porsche 924. I got one from Woolworth's for a birthday and built and rebuilt it until there was nothing left. In an attempt to recapture a memory of my childhood, I bought a couple of these on eBay. I just finished this one. This time, it will go on my shelf and not get destroyed playing in the yard! I built it right out of the box with only some mold line cleanup. Even by today's standards, I think this is still a nice kit. The proportions are dead on and it is a fun kit. I was going to do it in red, but decided to try one of Testor's One Coat Lacquers. I really like this stuff. A much better finish than the old brush paints from way back when. Anyway, here it is, glue spot and all. The color is Star Spangled Blue which looked like a close match to Petrol Blue Metallic. It is painted over Duplicolor sandable primer. Rattle cans all the way... Edited March 12, 2016 by oldcarfan
Dann Tier Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Great job on this Porsche! love the color choices! Q:did those wheels come with the kit?
oldcarfan Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 These wheels were on the original issue. Some later reissues came with a BBS wire basket style, but these are my favorites. I was going to go with silver or India red for the paint, but there are so many in those colors, I picked a less common offering from the 1979 Porsche color catalog.
Scalper Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Very nice. Nice to see these old rare Porsche kits built.

Dragline Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I too like these old Monogram kits. There really are quite a lot of them. Yours came out very nice, and you didn't paint it red [which is what I would have done "Faux Pas"..]
oldcarfan Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 I bought some India Red, and was going to go with that, but decided to save it for something else. Gonna have to start looking for more of this series. . I really like simpler kits these days and this series really had good proportions. I really want the 911 and the Ferrari 308. I got the MB 450 SLC along with another 924 on Ebay. May start it next I'm glad I got the Monogram 924 and not the Otaki one. That one just doesn't look right to my eye.
Snake45 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Very nice indeed! You're inspiring me to dig mine out of the Snakepit and finish it off after all these years!
Jonathan Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I wish they'd re-release these, too. My brother-in-law gave me one for Christmas that he found at some antique store (I think). The box was pretty worn, but the contents were MINT. I've started it. It's in primer. I have been fiddling w/ both bumpers some to get a clean fit. But, the proportions are, as you pointed out, just right. Your build looks fantastic, and it's nice to see a 924 that ain't silver or red .. or black, for that matter. I must got work on mine now!!
Ack! Ack-ack! Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Nice work, unfortunately the pictures are very small.
