Shelbytona Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) This is my next build and it's another low parts count kit, so it shouldn't take to long.. I sanded all the mold lines off, scribed all the panel lines deeper, Tamiya primer and painted then painted in tamiya gloss black. Next is decals and clear, then satin black details. It's gonna have white rims, black/chrome trim with red interior. Edited March 14, 2016 by Shelbytona
kelson Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Black is a hard color to get right, but it looks like it turned out for you.
Shelbytona Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Black is a hard color to get right, but it looks like it turned out for Yeah black can be tricky! I will wet sand the black with 2000 and 4000 prior to applying decals and then I will lay a coat of eurothane automotive clear and that gives the glass look. Edited March 13, 2016 by Shelbytona
Can-Con Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 That's gonna be a sharp looking little truck in that color combo.
mod3l Lover Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I was hoping to get to see a build or somethingabout this truck! Keep up the great work. David S.
Zarana-X Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Good work. Black looks clean. We've already established this is a 1980 year model truck. It is the first year of this body style, and the only year to have faux hood vents by the cowl. in 1981 they were functional, and moved to the sides. Also 1980 was the last year of the L20b engine (in this kit), 81-87 has the Z20s engine. Shelbytona Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thanks guys! Ahh that will help a bunch on looking up pictures, thanks! I just figured it was an 1985 since that was the year on the chassis.. I am not to big on imports, so it's hard for me to tell the years. I got the decals applied and cleared it.. These were really hard decals to use since they were so thick and didn't want to stick well even with micro set and micro sol. After a lot of fighting I got them, I hope the automotive clear holds them down well. The clear also didn't wanna lay flat on the decals, but it's almost unnoticeable. flares will be airbrushed with low gloss black, as well as the rear window rubber and door frames. The front trim will be BMF,d as well as the tie downs and door locks. Not sure on the handles, I'll have to look that up.
OldNYJim Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 What a great paintjob! It's really coming together nicely! I'll be following!
Intmd8r Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I like it - those "retro" graphics really "pop" on the gloss black.
mikemodeler Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Looking good, seems like you have mastered the art of the black paint job, congrats!Anxious to see it finished.
Shelbytona Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Thanks guys! It does look sharp in black with the graphics.. They're meet little trucks that you never see anymore, at least around here. I got the flares painted and inside roof done, next is the flat black around the rear window and door frames. After that it's BMF around the front window, door handles, lockss and tie downs on the box. I will BMF the tail lights and paint them clear red, clear orange and white. I also have to black wash all the panel lines in flat black.
Davewilly Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 looks pretty nice! For a snap kit this one makes a pretty nice finished model...I need to pick up one or 2 more of them for my truck stash
