CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) This started a couple months ago and I'll show the progression it made to today... Its my first diorama, but it gets better and better as I work on it. Here's how it started vs how it looks now for a sneak peak (March 7th, 2016 - will update this first post after every major changeup): Edited May 3, 2016 by CFMgarage
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 I guess it's needless to show much of the beginning, here's how I started the rebuild...some scale basswood and "for rent" styrene signs and we're off:
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Then I added outside walls, made some lights, added roof patterns, made a gutter, and some garage door frames.
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) I immediately realized this was too small so I expanded the size, started adding posters and a floor...then I googled some pics and built a dyno from basswood, styrene, and ice cream sticks...made an electrical box from it that I wrapped in carbon fiber, and added a laptop. After this I googled some designs for tool chests and cabinets and made paper foldables. Also added some shelves from styrene, workbenches from basswood and other miscellaneous stuff. CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Here is the finished interior for now. I may extend it later to add another bay and some machinery too...let me know what you guys think.
Sixties Sam Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 That's looking very good, Gergo! Nice brick and shingle work, and the checkerboard floor is cool!Sam
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Love it. Needs a lift or twoThanks! I was just thinking I can fit a lift in there so I'll probably build one next weekend. I gotta figure out how to make it functional, as that'd add room and coolness Edited March 14, 2016 by CFMgarage
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 That's looking very good, Gergo! Nice brick and shingle work, and the checkerboard floor is cool!SamThanks Sam! Ssssh, a quick secret: the bricks and shingles are both just photoshopped Google finds printed with my high-def photo printer...then I carefully attached them together (and added some graffitis.
landman Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Nice busy shop. Like a good dio, it tells a story.
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Love it. Needs a lift or two Well I took a sick day today so I figured why not make this lift happen...so I took some basswood, some ice cream sticks, styrene rods and some left over bolts and decals and made this lift. I think I can call the interior 100% finished although I may add some light switches and air hoses.
Canso65 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Looks great Gergo.Dioramas are great because you can continuously add and change things.
crazyrichard Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 nice idea's and i can see you have the vision .... i think and thats ment in such a good way , and the garage looks good and cool if you in the future would take like maybe 3 times the time you could really grow and make it even more detailed again ment very well
CFMgarage Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 nice idea's and i can see you have the vision .... i think and thats ment in such a good way , and the garage looks good and cool if you in the future would take like maybe 3 times the time you could really grow and make it even more detailed again ment very well I totally appreciate the nice words and the constructive tip/well-meant-criticism...this was my prototype build, kinda...to hold me over. Wife and I are planning to move down the shore from NJ to FL in a year or so, so once we have the new house and my designated hobby room (garage) I'll make a much more detailed version with less paper and rushed stuff.
crazyrichard Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 yes thats what i ment if you would use more stirdy materials next time ! will look killer .. gain not saying this is bad glad you understood what i ment , again i see you have the vision

I really appreciate your advice. Keeps me motivated to do better. Like I said, my space is so limited here, but I'm still working on improving the "shop" as time goes by. I'm considering either carving new cabinets out of wood, or possibly putting them together from styrene. I may even buy the fujimi tools remix kit and just going that route. Also considred redoing the dyno and the lift from much more pieces, and better material for the roller on the dyno and the lift arms for the lift, so that it becomes functional. I need to slow myself down when I make machines like these. Edited March 21, 2016 by CFMgarage
CFMgarage Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Sooo...after a month and a half I decided to put up an extension...here's how it looks (gonna keep the large side open for easy access: Here's the actual extension while I was still figuring out what goes where: Second floor coming together with a trophy shelf. Eventually this will get a desk and some lights: Extension more crowded now:
CFMgarage Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 And just so you can see how cool a photo looks from the "front parking area"...This is gonna be my favorite spot for pictures:

Thanks Brian!!! I really appreciate it. I'm currently working on rebuilding some things, including a dual car rack (Similar to Paul Walker's garage) so I can store 6-8 models in the back of the big side of the shop. I also wanna add more tools and benches, but we'll see how I can fit more stuff Edited May 16, 2016 by CFMgarage
slusher Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Great shop Gergo!! I like the Tuners and Fast n Furious posters. Nice touch on the checkered floor....
Kodiak Island Modeler Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 It's quite difficult to believe that this is your first diorama. The attention to detailing and implementing of said detailing is beyond measure. I've built many dioramas, and yet, have been inspired much by yours.
