Not necessarily the movie one, just any Phantom III?

A friend is getting back into modeling and wants to build one. He's a Bond movie fanatic.

Thanks,

Russ

I found some '34 Phantom II's, And the 62 Silver Cloud. Doesn't seem to be anything in between them. I've got a Phantom V in the works from two Silver Clouds, but they share nothing with the earlier cars.

Several brands have boxed a 1/16 Phantom III with coachwork by Freestone & Webb (slightly different from the Goldfinger car). It would require removing the roof portion over the front seat. Very nicely detailed kit, often available on eBay (and often overpriced. Don't pay more than $50-$60).

Thanks.

I'll let him know about the 1/16th ones, see if he is interested. Modifying the body is beyond his skills and physical limitations at this point though.

He might want to check this out.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolls-Royce-Phantom-III-Sedanca-DeVille-1-OF-ONLY-3-KNOWN-EXAMPLES-/391436734042?forcerrptr=true&hash=item5b23728e5a:g:bQQAAOSwuAVW1fYv&item=391436734042

Although I don't think he has that much cash anymore. And no where to keep it.

The 1/16 PIII has been issued by Revell, Entex, Anmark, Gunze Sangyo and others.

For some reason, copying the IMG field from Photobucket is blocked to me, but you can find several images of models, and of the real car from which the kit was taken (painted gold) at the link below. Also includes a good shot of the Goldfinger car.

Tried to help Skip but the same thing happened. This is definitely either a PB or MCM site problem. I've had this happen to me 3 times of late. Can't get any photos to appear directly in the thread.

I seem to have erred in the links that Cato posted for me. The image I described as the Goldfinger Rolls is actually a 1930 Phantom II that starred in "The Yellow Rolls-Royce."

PS -  If you search the forum, you'll see that Harry P did his usual masterful job when he turned this kit into a woody shooting brake, replete with a pair of scratch-built Purdey shotguns.

Just since we're talking about this car, I have two questions:

1. What did it weigh?

2  What would it weigh with a trunk full of gold bars?

If you're already formulating a third question, then we're on the same page....B):D

Not the one I had in mind, but I'd guess together they'd top 400 pounds. 500?

The real wonder in that film is what you can put in the back of a Ford Ranchero.

No more calls, please we have a winner!

Would that load have broken all four springs and bent the "frame," or JUST bottomed it out and popped all four tires?

You want to talk about fantasy tech in Bond films, forget the giant laser, or that gadget laden Aston Martin.  How about the suspension mods on that pickup?

It just occurred to me (I haven't seen the movie in a decade or more) that it wasn't the Rolls that got crushed, cubed, and dumped in the Ranchero, it was a Lincoln Continental, wasn't it? That's no lightweight, either.

How much did the crushed gangster weigh?

It was a Lincoln sedan, probably a 64-65, engineless as seen in the crane pic heading into the crusher. Could see thru the grille or hood I forget which.

Curb weight was 5055 lbs less 650-750 lbs of motor, maybe a few hundred more with trans. Cancels most of gangster weight.

So, dropping 2 ton brick into bed of 65 Ranchero. Wouldn't go well.

Great movie anyway.

Could probably start with the Italeri Maharajah Rolls as a start, but it'd be a long haul project
