crowe-t Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 There was a TV show on NBC in 1985 called Misfits Of Science. In the opening scene of the pilot episode there was an old Cadillac Ambulance. I attached some screen shots. Can anyone tell me what year this Cadillac is? It looks like it's a Schaefer Ambulance. Does anyone know what paint/color was used for the lower red-ish color? The AMT Ghostbusters Ecto-1 kit looks very similar to this ambulance in the screen shots. The tail lights are different. Does anyone know of another kit I can use to build this ambulance or is the Ghostbusters kit the way to go?
Craig Irwin Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) It's a 64, (63 did not have the painted center grille), but I know nothing about the coachwork.. Notice the wrap around windshield, last used in 1960 on Cadillac passenger cars, but used on Cadillac commercial chassis through 64. This could be made from a JoHan 64 and a 59 Ghostbuster kit.Jimmy Flinstone makes a 59 hi top ambulance body that might help too. Edited April 30, 2016 by Craig Irwin
crowe-t Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) The Jimmy Flintstone 59 Ambulance's hi-top doesn't match the one from the TV show and the body would need to be converted to a 64. It seems using the Ghostbusters kit and a Jo-Han 64 is the better option. Does anyone know what color was used for the bottom, red-ish, part of the Schaefer Ambulances? Aaronw Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 The Ghostbusters kit isn't a high top, so you may still want the flintstone body (I think he offers a hightop ambulance and a hearse body). Schaefer ambulance still exists, so it might be possible to get a color from the company if you are lucky enough to find someone older with some time to spare.http://www.schaeferamb.com/ The professional car society has a Socal chapter which might be another option for finding the color.http://www.theprofessionalcarsociety.org/about.html
crowe-t Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 I'd have to combine the Jo-Han 1964 body's front end and hood as well as the tail lights with either the Ghostbusters body or the Jimmy Flintstone body. I think using a styrene body(Ghostbusters) will be easier. The hi top on the Jimmy Flintstone body isn't the same as in the pictures I posted above so I can scratch build that.I contacted both Schaefer Ambulance and the Professional Car Society regarding the color. I'll let you know what I find.
Art Anderson Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 That's a Superior Ambulance, which I do not believe was ever done on 1/25 scale.Art
thatz4u Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 johan 64 Caddy & johan ambulance for starters..scratch build the hightop...
crowe-t Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 Art, It looks to have the paint color of the Schaefer Ambulances. The red-ish brown lower section.Al, The Jo-han Ambulance doesn't have the wrap around windshield that the Ghostbusters kit has.
Edsel-Dan Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Rear roof up-rights do match the Jo-Han 66 Ambulance norethat the Ghostbuster's 59 though. And yes it Is a 64Look at the First Pic. The grill sections are not in a Flat plain to each otherThey Bevel Inward from the center to top & bottom And, HOW did you get the Screen Shots??Is Misfits available on DVD now??it was a Flop of a Series, so did not survive a full seasonToo bad as I liked it

It doesn't have the wrap around windshield. It still looks like the best option is to combine the AMT Ghostbusters and the Jo-Han 64 Cadillac kits and scratch build the high-top. There is a German and French release of the Misfits Of Science on DVD. Both sets have English audio as an option but are in the European PAL video format. I'm able to watch them on my computer using 3rd party video player software from VLC. Art is referring to the coach builder Superior, not the service using the ambulance. I understand now. Thanks for clearing that up. Edited May 1, 2016 by crowe-t

Maindrian Pace Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I believe that the curved rear 1/4 windows makes that a Superior Criterion ambulance.
