CFMgarage Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) I randomly found this car by browsing around for cars I would never be able to afford...I know a lot of people are skeptical about it's power levels, however there are youtube videos of the engine being dyno'd. This is just a prototype, and it's ugly but regardless it's respect-worthy and badass. It's a 12.3 V16 Quad-turbo car that looks like a futuristic batmobile. Claiming 5,000 horsepower, 0-60 in 1.8 seconds, and a top speed of 350+ MPH. Devel says on their website that they're making a 1200 hp daily driveable version and a 3000 hp one as well. While I would never buy it (even if I could afford it), I'd love to build a model of it...Check out the pics: Edited May 24, 2016 by CFMgarage
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Batmobile indeed. Though I don't really like the styling, it's so far over-the-top, in-your-face that I certainly have to admire the effort.
Draggon Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Those HP numbers approach Top Fuel and Funny Car numbers. That is going to need some serious electronic intervention to come even close to being driveable. Edited May 24, 2016 by Draggon
CFMgarage Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Attached the dyno video explaining the power curve and the engine...so we know the engine is real. It was built by Steve Morries in the US. Road and Track even checked it out. Edited May 24, 2016 by CFMgarage
unclescott58 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I'm sorry. But that thing is just plain ugly. It looks some of the recently designed Hot Wheels Batmobiles. Which I dislike too. I'm kind of thankful that not many people can afford the car.. That means I'm unlikely to ever see one.
iamsuperdan Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Ahh spring...when all of these backyard builders release their supercar concepts on the world. 99% of which never move past the rendering phase. And of that 1% that see a concept built, 99% of those disappear. If I had that kind of money to spend on a car, would I send it to some unknown builder that is unproven? Or would I go and see McLaren or Konigsegg? No brainer there.

I'm not defending this manufacturer, as I would probably go that route too, but they brought this car out nearly 2 years ago and their engine builder is one of the best GM V8 builders ever. Do I think this will become reality? No. And I'm totally with you on going to a more realistic and respectful company...but in the meantime these guys did build this ONE ridiculous engine

Whatever happened to flowing lines & elegant design. Now it seems they have to make everything look like a "Transformer"! I just can't imagine who finds these chopped up things appealing. I don't care how much power it has, If I had it, I would spend my mega bucks on an original Hemi Cuda convertible before I would even consider dropping a dime on this mess! Steve

Building a full-scale display display vehicle...even a non-runner... that looks to be finished as well as the photos show is also rather a big deal.Probably 99.999999% of the Earth's population couldn't do it, so I wouldn't sneer too much. cook_dw Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Engine bares a lot of similarities to the GM LS family.. Almost looks like 2 LS engines were set front to back. Still an amazing feat to accomplish a working 4K+ hp engine.. Edited May 24, 2016 by cook_dw
gtx6970 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) I'll applaud this kind of effort any body - any day. There is a TON of time on a CNC machine to fabricate all that BUT, IMO, the car is dead ugly.Plus they show the car, and they show the engine. but I don't see any thing to show that engine is in that car. Spex84 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I seem to recall a video last year that featured the car driving through a parking lot somewhere in the middle east, and there was discussion of the exhaust note--it sounded like a chevy V8.I think the body looks like it was lovingly crafted from paper mache and cardboard.I can't argue with that insane engine though. Pretty awesome. I'm thinking maybe it's not actually installed in the prototype/demo car.Lol at the "3500 torque" (or whatever it was) though: "I would like you to build me a car...it must look the Fastest and have thousands of Horse Powers, and the Torques must be over 3000. Spare no expense."
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Walkaround showing an engine IN the car, possibly a mockup...
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Car running and moving, does indeed sound rather like a V8...
Roadrunner Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Great car for James Bond, but certainly not for me.

Still an amazing feat to accomplish a working 4K+ hp engine.. I saw something about it and IIRC, it's based around the LS architecture, but the block, heads, crank, and cam are specific to it, for obvious reasons. Edited May 24, 2016 by Joe Handley
unclescott58 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 After watching the two videos above, I now don't just dislike the car. I hate it. In my opinion it's immoral. I will say no more on this subject, other than I will not be viewing anything in this one particular thread again. That does not I disapprove of the posting or viewing the thread. It's just not for me.
Xingu Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Those HP numbers approach Top Fuel and Funny Car numbers. That is going to need some serious electronic intervention to come even close to being driveable.I saw an NHRA video not long ago that says Top Fuel cars are making 13-14k hp. It is an impressive feat that they can get any of that power to the ground.

Exactly.I don't begrudge anyone for building something from scratch, but ugly is ugly. And as they say, "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clear to the bone"! Steve

However, every year, we see another batch of these big dreamer startups that have a revolutionary new supercar that is hyped to be the best car ever. And then they vanish. So now whenever I see a new supercar with wild designs (like a turbocharged V16) and wild performance claims (0-60 in 1.6sec) I tend to yawn and think about Dana Carvey as the Chruch Lady..."Well now, isn't that special?"

I tend to agree with that for the most part...and have since the ugly Bugatti thing in the last big one-upmanship go-round. Every now and then though, somebody does break new ground and wrap it in a stunning package (and completes almost all the production engineering) like the technically innovative twin-turbine hybrid Jag C-X75...and the closer-to-reality 1.6 litre piston-powered hybrid that came close to full production.

Agreed, but I would care to wager most of those same people don't care it even exists or could afford it if it did . Besides,,,,,The vast majority of these types of builds are nothing more than a styling exercise to show they CAN do it .
ChrisBcritter Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Wonder how long it will be before we see the first video of someone with deep pockets and the driving skills of a three-year-old piling one up?
