X6 Orange looks like it should be in the ballpark. If it looks too orange and not red enough for you, add some red.

Model Master has an acrylic for Chevrolet engine orange/red. The best one out of their engine colors in my opinion...

If you're painting a big block Chevy (396/427/454), or certain late '60s small blocks, the Model Master Chevy Engine Red--a brilliant red-orange--is exactly what you want. All the muscle-era Chevy big blocks were this color.

Earlier in the decade, small blocks were painted a very orange orange, like Testor little bottle orange. I've been trying to find out at what point (and on what particular engines) they went to the more red (red-orange) color.

For sure my 68 Z/28 came with the red orange block.  I think the same for 1967.

Good information. So did the 350 in my '69 SS350, with a Tonawanda #1 Team decal on the valve cover.

I also seem to recollect my parents' 65 Impala SS 327 300HP was red orange (but it had a Powerglide :( )  Their other Chevy was a 62 Chevy II with the 4 banger.  I don't remember the engine color on that.
