Agent G Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Its sad just how much complaining goes on in the hobby here, all the time wasted on complaining that could be used to build models.Oh so true.G

afx Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I want to complain about some people complaining that other people complain too much.
unclescott58 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Its sad just how much complaining goes on in the hobby here, all the time wasted on complaining that could be used to build models.I can't agree more.
Tom Geiger Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I want to complain about some people complaining that other people complain too much. then I'm going to complain about you complaining that some people complain about other people complaining too much!
espo Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 It would seem that most agree that by in large the posts and pictures are appreciated and are usually informative on the process of the build. I have been building since before some here where even born. But I continue to learn from the other builders here and I have seen a marked improvement in my builds over the last few years as a result. Thank you one and all for sharing your knowledge.
10thumbs Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 ....But I continue to learn from the other builders here and I have seen a marked improvement in my builds over the last few years as a result. That's the way I see it too. Viewing lots of different types projects can often show where some things can be applied to ones own project. When something pops up that catches my interest, well I'll be asking a question for sure.
American 185 Heavy Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Some great and valid points made, and some not so great. My whole point is I don't need to read or see 'before wheel cover' and with wheel cover on. And then someone of course has to comment on it, I mean come on, its a wheel and hubcap, and that post goes up to the top again !!! Interesting to some maybe, but boring to me, and annoying when I am trying to find a model that was posted earlier and I wanted an idea or two from it. That now goes to another page, because someone sweated the details and grief of installing the wheel cover and has to show the world !!! I love to see the progress myself on certain models, just not every single piece painted or first unpainted. No need for that I think but hey, that is just me............ Roadrunner Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I've been thinking a lot about this subject since yesterday (probably too much), and have come to realize that threads that don't get updated unless they meet a certain criteria, would lead to a very boring site indeed, as probably many posts could be viewed as frivolous, based upon strict guidelines of perceived relevance.I've also come to the conclusion that I like the site just the way it is, with my choosing what and when to view whatever interests me.

Snake45 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I've also come to the conclusion that I like the site just the way it is, with my choosing what and when to view whatever interests me.Me too, for the most part. I have a few changes I'd like to suggest, but they're outside the scope of this thread. Perhaps I shall propose them someday.
JollySipper Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I like to show the progress I make on my builds here, because the friends and family I have don't really understand what goes into doing a good job on a model. The guys here get it, and can appreciate time into something.......... Plus posts are what keep this forum active, interesting, and most important, entertaining..........
keyser Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Vain. Fantasy. If you're learning, and busy, why are you complaining? Makes no sense. Skip a thread. Like this one, or the ones you complain about. People can post whatever they want, as can you.Reading threads you don't like, and the updates, just seems odd. Ordering brussel sprouts at restaurant, eating them, and complaining you hate brussel sprouts, why are they offered? Wow.
Roadrunner Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 On thing that does annoy me, is someone starting a WIP thread, then continuing that model in another brand new thread, rather than updating the existing one. I don't see it here too often, but it does occur.
American 185 Heavy Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 For the man who told me to post wip pics....am building a 78 Dodge Monaco sedan daily driver. Agonized for hours over whitewalls or blackwalls. and then 'Agonized' even more, luxury wheel covers or the optional alloy wheel ?? Got so tired and frustrated from all this decision making, had to lay down for a bit because of a massive headache setting in !!!
highway Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 .....other than bad spelling, bad grammar, or just general butchery of the English language from those members whom have English as their first or only language, is when pictures are posted in a WIP thread OF THE SAME THING!!! I have seen it in a few threads, someone will take a pic of a piece, for example a dashboard, and post multiple pics of it from EVERY ANGLE! Here's what it looks like from the driver's seat.....here's from the passenger side.....here's looking through the windshield....here's from the floor.....here's from the roof.....here's from the back seat....and so on. One picture showing the entire dashboard centered in the pic is all I needed to see! That usually also seems to go hand in hand with the "before the glove box door lock was painted" and "after the glove box door lock was painted" type of post.

That usually also seems to go hand in hand with the "before the glove box door lock was painted" and "after the glove box door lock was painted" type of post. Amen !!!! What I have been thinking for the last few weeks now. Gets to a point where it is just plain crazy. This is a hobby I thought, not a way of life. You can't ever drive them unless some modeler has figured out how to make the engines work accurately and the lights too !!! Then there would be the huge problem of shrinking to fit in it to drive it. Like I said earlier today to someone who posted about my posting wip pictures, which I won't do, as I build only factory stock cars, and to my liking and not anyone else's, I had a rough day today, since I had to agonize for hours over whitewalls or black walls, and then the mind boggling decision on this 78 Monaco whether to go luxury wheel cover, or the optional aluminum wheels. Too much to handle in one day and it gave me a massive headache, and had to take aspirin and lie down for a few hours ! I could have taken at least 7 or 8 pictures and posted asking which looked more dazzling, but I won't waste my phones battery, but more important anyone's time with such silliness. I build for my fun and stress relief and because I like cars. I don't expect to win a contest, get judged or receive criticism from people who are far more talented than myself. Some of these models in the under glass section are amazing, but unfortunately I don't have that kind of time or patience. To each his own.........
John Teresi Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Theres something here for everybody -no ones forcing you to look at their work. if you dont like it, move on.
John Teresi Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Cripes a Mighty! First we complain about not enough pictures, bad pictures and very little info, now it is too many pictures? Come on! Like Dann said, move on if it bothers you or you don't care. Simple And to everyone, just keep doing what you are doing, its ok!
peteski Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread and I agree with him. I don't mind lots of photos and long drawn out threads on a build but what makes me pass on a thread is all the oohs and aahs, posted after every update by the builder. Good example is the Army Vega Funny Car thread. It documents a truly mind-blowing build. The details are stunning and the photographic contents is amazing. I could actually learn about how the real Funny Cars are built (since I'm not familiar with those), if I could read through the 200+ pages of posts. I try, but after about 10 pages I just get discouraged and go elsewhere. Why? Because for every build update with photos there are about a dozen posts of oohs and aahs about the update and about the model. While I agree that the build is incredible, the ratio of the actual updates to praising posts is way too low. If most of the praises were deleted, that thread would actually be readable. I'm not saying here that the modeler is not very skilled or that the model is nothing but incredible - just the signal-to-noise ration in that thread is just too high for me to read it.I suspect I wouldn't have as big of a problem with it if I followed it from the beginning, but when I joined this forum, that thread was already well underway. I also don't see any good solutions to this, unless maybe the forum could introduce a "like" rating for a post. That way instead of the posts praising the update, members could simply "like" that post. The total "like" count could be shown in the post's header. Edited August 8, 2016 by peteski
Snake45 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 This is a hobby I thought, not a way of life. Blasphemer! Heretic!
10thumbs Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Blasphemer! Heretic! ....and contradictory as well. Bruce, I feel you're writing yourself in circles. Several posts back, I'm talking about the ones that were deleted.... You wrote that you're not as "vein" as to show your own models. Then the deal just recently about your headaches and needing an aspirin to regain your wits after the decision dilemma about which hub cab would be better suited. Now I read you find some cars under glass as "amazing, but to each his own". Bruce, perhaps your veinity is knocking on your door and your aspirin high is kicking in. I'm kind of amazed with this thread. Experience lets me realize this site is quite civil and amusing as well and there are a lot of very good modelers here, respect, and thanks for showing all your pics guys! But why the trivial complaints? Get over it and let guys post what they feel like posting. None are perfect.
