Is it true???

I first heard that rumour on the Drastic Plastics club chat room several years ago. Heard it was Revell and it was to be a companion kit to their '77 Monte Carlo low rider snap kit. Never heard anything about it in years though.

I used to own a 1/1 '72 so it's of particular interest to me.

That's the first I've heard that, but I will say that particular car was one of the items listed on the "Wish List" that Revell had folks sign onto at the NNL East, that I posted about a while back.

All I can say is how can you NOT love that boat-tail??

IMO, this is one of GM's better bright spots of the '70's and certainly one of Bill Mitchell's most daring designs. Love it or hate it, it's certainly an attention getter and I do remember these very well as a teen growing up back then when these were on the road.

The lowrider crowd would be all over this! I say make it as a snapper with options to build a stock and a lowrider version. Leave it to us superdetail guys to go all out and set it apart. I'd build mine without the vinyl roof though.............looks better without it, or as a "day two" car with the half vinyl roof. That option didn't come along till '73 I think, but it complements the roofline all the better.

I hope the rumors are true, but we'll just have to wait and see!

Never enough Rivs for me. I'd love to see a boattail Riv finally be done. Prefer a '72. But and '71 or '73 would be okay too. And if it's put out by Revell, with the same level of detail as their '77 Monte, I'll be happy with that too. Though the low rider version does not interest me at all. Like I did with the Monte, I would end up waiting the a more stock version to be brought to the market before buying one. It would be nice if Revell offered it was two-in-one. Stock and lowrider right off the bat.

These have been done in resin but I don't know how well they were done.  The top link will take you to a nice resin kit search site.

I have one that I got off eBay from Time Machine Resins. It may be the same as the R&R one-----I don't know 'cept to say there are no plated parts, and I'd have to make my own glass. I do know that it'll take some work to make it nice. Not a bad kit per se, but not on the level of The Modelhaus as they did a '72 I believe.

Frankly, if there's a plastic equivalent of any particular car, I'd much rather work with the plastic just in case there's some corrections that need to be made.

This has always been on my suggestions list for the Model Companies. So was the Bronco, and now we have a Bronco! Maybe this could be next!!

Come on Revell, do it!!

Here's to keeping our fingers crossed that this car is indeed on the front burner and will come out maybe next year or so! B)

Works for me. I have a Modelhaus Riviera trying to make a Silver Arrow III out of it. Let's just say that the Modelhaus kit has issues that need to be rectified for replica stock even before making the show car, mostly in the roofline. I spent a good amount of time with it and put it back in the box, a bit frustrated. Both with the model itself, and my slow progress on making improvements for not only the SA III but also to try to make stuff like the glass fit properly whatsoever. Like making channels for the glass to fit from the outside. It's challenging, and I had other things that I preferred to work on, so it sits.

A plastic kit that's more accurate and far less expensive would be awesome. Love the boat tail Rivs!

None of the resin ones got the roofline right. It's one continuous curve from the windshield to the tip of the trunk. They all have a kink at the top where the roof transitions to the rrear glass..

Hmmm, Steve  I had to dig up a good side view shot of a '71 to see what you mean and sure enough, that's how it is.

The resin one I got is too flat which in a sorta subconscious way I guess on my part, I was trying to fix on my resin what I thought was warpage when in fact, the roof is too flat.

All the more reason I'll wait till the plastic one comes about if it indeed ever does. We'll see.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for this one just because I don't see enough versions to justify it.  On the flip side I never thought I 'd ever see the S&H Torino or a mid-eighties Olds Cutlass in kit form either.  I agree it's a great design, maybe Revell has another surprise for us ?

The Hurst Olds pleased some. Its only real use to me is as a WJ pro stocker (and Slixx is working on the decals.....THANKS!). Its been a good seller.

A boat tail Riviera is so iconic. A stock Detroit car that's a beautiful car straight from the factory. Truly this is one of a few kits announced in the past ten years that I'd pre-order.

Oh it hasn't been announced. :(  Fall new releases should be announced in a few weeks. PLEASE!
