aurfalien Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) Hi,Curious if the community can recommend a decent paint mask?I don't have any real ventalation just yet. Thanks in advance. Edited September 5, 2016 by aurfalien
Tom Geiger Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I use Tamiya tape. When put down correctly, it pretty much leaves a perfect separation line every time. It's a bit expensive but worth it. For masking, I use the Tamiya tape just for the separation line. Past that line I've been using 3M Painters Blue tape. It's cheaper and does the job of coverage with enough stick to protect the model but also pulls off well with no damage.
Snake45 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I think he's asking about a respirator-type "paint mask."
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) ...I don't have any real ventalation just yet. I believe he means respirator. I like the 3M line, or any of the decent ones you can get at Home Depot, etc. Be sure you get something labeled "organic vapor" or "paint" that also has gauze pre-filters to catch particulate matter. Cool I'm there, thanks much, I'm stoked. Was starting to feel like Spicoli during paint sessions.
crowe-t Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I see the 3M respirators come in 3 sizes, small, medium and large. How do I determine which size to get? My head measures approximately 22.75 inches around.

Casey Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Make sure you get a mask with removable cartridges...the 3M brand pictured has both pre-filters and charcoal filters, so they are great and only about $35 at Home Depot, etc. I have used them for years while spraying oil-based enamels, pre-catalyzed lacquers, etc., and they work great. Once you start to smell the fumes with the mask on correctly, it's time to change the filters. be gentle with the clear, snap-on pre-filter covers, too, as they cannot (or at least could not a few years ago) be purchased separately...one drop, and *crack*
crowe-t Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Thanks Bill and Casey for the information! I'm going to order a 3M respirator.
