KWT Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) While finishing up the 67 Chevelle, I got started on another kit that I had originally built long ago.. Already saw in my head how I wanted this one to go. So I started with the body work and paint.. sanded off all the badges, mold lines and what not, then laid down a coat of primer. After that dried, I covered it with Testors Dark Bronze Metallic, then covered that with the Ultra Clear Gloss...b'cuz I couldn't get the decal to even begin to lay right, I masked it off and hit it with some flat black.. then added decals from FireBird Designs... Didn't take a lot of progress pic up to this point, but here's where I'm at... Still have to add the 440 decals, but I don't know which to use... firebirds are a tad large and not really meant for the fenders, so I'll probably go with the kit ones... We'll see... High octane Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Now I know what that color looks like as it has been discontinued for awhile, but I have three cans of it in my stash. Lookin' good, as I just love dem Mopars!
Snake45 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 More pics! I have a can of that color bought some time ago, been wondering what it looks like and what I can use it on.
426-Hemi Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 GORGEOUS color on that car! Question on the '71 Roadrunner grille, was that a GTX with the grille "GTX" emblem removed? (I'm not sure if an actual '71 Roadrunner was made, and if so, was this an OLD kit from MPC? (Before my model car collecting knowledge and time)Any engine chosen to date for powering this Mopar? Also 1/25th or 1/24th scale? -I ask as I have the Monogram '71 Satelite grille from yesteryear Monogram!!!!! (I plan to mold the thing) to offer a change from the GTX kit!
carman1 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 very sharp, I too like the color and will be watching this one close !
espo Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I agree with the others here on the color. I liked it so much I found I was painting everything in this and Tamiya Orange Mt.

(I plan to mold the thing) to offer a change from the GTX kit! This is a build of the Revell / Monogram '71 GTX (1/24). That kit has the GTX emblem in the middle of the grille. It's a retool of the Monogram '71 Satellite from the early '80's. The grille in that kit has no emblem in the middle. The 1:1 grilles for these cars were the same in '71- either a Satellite emblem (a rectangular chrome piece with red, white & blue painted pockets in it), a little Road Runner head emblem, or a GTX logo would screw into the same hole. They all had different paint treatments, too. They all have different part numbers, but the grilles themselves are physically the same for 1971 Satellite 2 doors. In '72, the same grille was used for all Satellites, while the Road Runner had a unique grille. MPC did annual kits of the '71 Road Runner (last reissued in 1987 by MPC-ERTL), '71 GTX (a rare mid-year variant), and '72 Road Runner. Each of these kits had the appropriate grille. It would be pretty easy for a caster to offer the MPC grilles, but they would not fit the Revell/ Monogram kits. It is easy enough to add the right emblems to the 1/24 grilles. I have scratchbuilt Satellite emblems, foil-cast GTX emblems (back before the GTX retool was available), and the Road Runner head could probably be sculpted from a tiny piece of plastic or putty.

Bill,Yes, I know, the '71 model year of the Plymouth Satelite, Roadrunner & GTX were merely a "re-badging" of the same car.... -I asked to see if the kit you used was thee old Monogram Satelite or if you had removed the "GTX" emblem cast into the Monogram '71 GTX..... I myself, have the GTX, BUT, I also have the grille from the ole Satelite too (Both 1/24th scale)..... I plan to locate another GTX, to use the Satelite grille in!
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Wow! That color does look good! I'm in Jeremy!

This is the latest reincarnation of the 1/24 scale Revell/Monogram GTX.. It has the GTX grill, with emblem. Probably going with the kits 440 on this one... I'm piecing together things for another one later on, that'll be a lil bit different.
KWT Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Thanks everybody, I appreciate it!Not a lot of progress this week, since work has picked back up... It never slowed down. That's just what they say so we don't revolt. I really need to find a better day job..lol.
426-Hemi Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 NIICE!!!!I got one of these as the GTX, and have a lonely grille toa '71 Satelite, that I have to get another one of these kits to use it... BUT, thats a ways off for now..... NICE work on it tho! sure looks GREAT that color! -Black goes with it perfectly too!
KWT Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Not alot of progress made.. life gets in the way.. I did however get some clear sprayed.. This is after a couple mists and 2 wet coats. There is still a lil bit of a bump around the decals, so I'd like to put another coat or so on... But I'm really thinking about leaving well enough alone, before I screw something up. Still have to smooth it out... Hopefully I can make a lil more progress soon.
KWT Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Got the grill and tail lights done today... yay me.. slow go here lately... working on the engine tonight, while waiting for the kiddo to get back from his competition. Hoping to make a little progress this weekend.
KWT Posted October 2, 2016 Author Posted October 2, 2016 Got a little more work done tonight... Got some detail on the dash.. thought I had some guages, but I guess I've misplaced them. a little detail on the interior. Some engine work... Glad to have made a little bit of progress this weekend.
