Impalow Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Picked one of these up as a present for my dad, really nice tool seems to put the light right where you need it. 14.99 minus the 40% coupon its not a huge up-charge over the nicer handles out there either. Also the counterweight of the AAA battery may keep it from going blade down into your leg/foot when it rolls of the bench. http://xacto.com/products/cutting-solutions/knives/detail/X3279 Edited September 21, 2016 by Impalow
Harry P. Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Now that is a clever idea. I just might have to get me one of those.
JTalmage Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 That might be a nice addition for when cutting/trimming BMF...
Joe Handley Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 That would be awesome for painting Lexan R/C bodies and making the blacked out portions of glass on models!
unclescott58 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I too think I need one. What a great idea.
THarrison351 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Hmm... Me thinks I'll be making a trip to HL whenever I come back from Toronto. If we can ever make this new plane fly, sheesh.
Joe Handley Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Just might stop by and buy one on Saturday!
Mooneyzs Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 That"s cool... I may have to consider one of these...lol
Roadrunner Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I saw that last Saturday at HL, but was too busy buying Christmas stuff. I'll probably snatch one eventually though.
slusher Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I could use one of those. My eye sight is not what it use to be...
martinfan5 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 That is a neat idea, I might have to get one.
carman1 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I could use one of those. My eye sight is not what it use to be...x2
niteowl7710 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) Well at least all you guys who keep slicing your fingers open, or embedding them in your legs will be able to see how bad the wound is, in brilliant LED light. Edited September 22, 2016 by niteowl7710
Toner283 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Well at least all you guys who keep slicing your fingers open, or embedding them in your legs will be able to see how bad the wound is, in brilliant LED light. I guess that could be considered looking on the bright side of things. ☺
High octane Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Hmmm, interesting idea however I've been using my Xacto knife for years and it seems to work great for me. No need to add another tool to my bench.
Brian_R Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 This seems like a good idea for my Bare Metal knife so I had to go get one.
Joe Handley Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Hmmm, interesting idea however I've been using my Xacto knife for years and it seems to work great for me. No need to add another tool to my bench.I've got a couple shorty hobby knives from Great Planes (must have forgot I had one and bought a second), I can see this being much more useful in regular use over the shorty knives.
Tom Geiger Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I dunno guys I can only afford double edge razor blades! Works great and they're cheap because you can use both sides! Draw back is I can only work on models one day a week. It takes my fingers the rest of the time to heal each week!
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 This seems like a good idea for my Bare Metal knife so I had to go get one. Aha! Great idea. I've been putting off learning BMF in particular because it was quite hard for me to see exactly where to cut. I've also been making scallop-masking stencils lately, having the same problem. Yup. I'll be gittin' one of these.
Tom Geiger Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Another great tip that helped me was to color your exacto blade sides black so you can see it against the bright BMF. That works super!

Daddyfink Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Lights, lights, lights! You guys are going to be unstoppable now!
slusher Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Lights, lights, lights! You guys are going to be unstoppable now! I don't know about unstoppable but been thinking about getting one but it will make me look like a banker or jeweler...
