GeeBee Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Well 3rd time lucky with the paint today, I wasn't taking any chances, the body got a good clean with some panel wipe that I had been waiting for, then a quick going over with a tack cloth, it will need to be wet sanded and polished, but I'm happy with the results, I'm going to leave it for a while, as I used automotive acrylic paint instead of the usual cellulose lacquer that i normally use,
dublin boy Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Good to see some colour on it Geoff.Nice job too.
Del Austin Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Great looking build. Reminds me of my first car, a 1948 Ford Coupe. One note on the dash is that on;y the center trim should be chrome (refer to your second picture).
GeeBee Posted November 1, 2016 Author Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) Finally got the wet sanding done, only needed to touch up in a few places, door locks and a few edges, but nothing major, started off with 3600 grit paper, followed by 400 and 6000, got the bonnet, (Sorry,Hood) polished out this afternoon, if the body turns out as good, I'll be well happy Bodyshell and bonnet after being wet sanded with the 3600 grit paper Bonnet finished after being wet sanded and polished using 4 different grades of polish Edited November 1, 2016 by GeeBee
GeeBee Posted November 1, 2016 Author Posted November 1, 2016 Good to see some colour on it Geoff.Nice job too. Cheer's Shay, it doesn't usually take me three attempts to get a body in paint .....
dublin boy Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Well I was nearly expecting it in a box from the Postman with a note saying 'please paint it for me' lolLooks great.
GeeBee Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 (edited) Gas tank painted Floor pan fitted to chassis Polishing finished Now at the beginning of this post I mentioned that the clear parts tree was missing out of the kit, I had made a parts request to Revell, as this 48 Ford had been re-released a few times under the Revell branding, but sadly they had no stock of the parts, then I recieved a PM off Les Budge AKA Stitchup, saying he had to same kit in his stash and that he would be building it as the custom version, so the stock parts, i.e windscreen and quarter vents will be surplus to requirements, and would I like them, well I'm pleased to say they arrived yesterday, (Thanks Les) and I couldn't wait to start work on them, the only parts he couldn't send me were the headlamp lenses, luckily I managed to find a pair that fitted perfectly in my spares box, what there off I really don't know. GeeBee Posted November 17, 2016 Author Posted November 17, 2016 finally got the chrome trim on the body done using bmf, just the chrome on the rear lamp houses needs doing
espo Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 The paint looks amazing. I like the body color/interior color combination.
GeeBee Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 Finally got the chrome trim on the rear light housing done today, fitted the heater, batter and convertible top motor, also got the front windshield fitted, not the best fitting windshield I've ever fitted, but it's in, and not a glue or finger mark to be seen, mind you those little finger cots seem to help a lot, i also gave the body a quick wipe over with some Novus # 1
GeeBee Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 Finally got the interior fitted, after fitting the quarter vent windows, now it can be fitted onto the chassis
tbill Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 coming together nicely. that paint job is beautiful!
GeeBee Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 Body & chassis fitted together, coming close to being finished+
slusher Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Body & chassis fitted together, coming close to being finished+ man,it's looking impressive...
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Lovely. Clean work. Great color for this particular body style.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Loved what you did!!!Building the coupe now. Have the convertible kit, from 1998, still sealed. Bummer about your dash decals. Can scan mine if you are interested. You did right on the dash. Only the ashtrays are supposed to be cadmium plated on '48 Fords. Previous years they were chrome plated. I'll leave the dash insert on mine chrome. It's supposed to be painted cream, but I like it better in chrome. My interior is going to be gray, with a gray steering wheel, and metallic gray dash and steering column.
Eric Macleod Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I have been following this thread with interest. I am stunned by just how good this model really is. Absolutely beautiful work on a drop dead gorgeous subject.
TooOld Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Beautiful work Geoff ! This kit wasn't on my to do list but after seeing yours I'm going to dig it out if my stash !
GeeBee Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Not a lot to get this one finished now, 2 stone guards on the rear wings, 2 wipers, 2 door handles and the rear number plate to be fitted and it's done, next time I post, it will be in the "Under Glass" section
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Think about a beautiful model!!!Don't want to be a pain Geoff, but the bonnet emblem is upside down. Wish this kit came with trim rings. The closest ones are from the AMT '40 Ford, and those don't fit the wheels nicely.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Another "pain" on those kits is the fact they provide us with the accessory cowl trim mirror, but don't indicate the need of the little hole where it goes. On my Sedan Coupe and on my Wagon I drilled a small hole on the center of the cowl chrome trim to install it. Did it after the trim was foiled. A little tricky.
