Chrischu33 Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Hey there, has anyone here tried plasti dip on their models? I want to try plasti-dipping matte black on the bed of the truck of my next build. Simply because I have ran out of Tamiya matte black and i have some plasti dip lying around
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 WAY too thick for a model, period. One thing it DOES work well for is making larger diameter hoses if you don't have just the right size to be scale-correct.
JollySipper Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Bill, do you think there is a way to maybe thin this stuff? It could maybe be brushed on for a bed liner.......?
Mark Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I wouldn't bother with the stuff unless I had a lot of time to experiment with it. Bed liner can be simulated with "fabric texture" spray paint, or the Testors vinyl top texture spray.I wonder if Tex Smith didn't unknowingly invent bed liner...there's a series of articles in Rod & Custom in the late Sixties where he rebuilds an early Fifties Chevy pickup as a street machine/occasional work truck. On that project, he actually sprayed the inside of the bed with spray-on vinyl roof texture finish, way before I can remember anyone else doing that. I remember those cheap plastic liners that rubbed the paint off of the inside of the bed, again way before seeing the roll-on or spray-on finishes.
peteski Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I suspect that the solvent used in PlastiDip will attack or soften bare styrene.
