Flynlo Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) With the recent re-release of the 1/16th scale semi tractor kits it is a shame that the Fruehauf flatbed remains the only trailer option unless you scratch build a trailer (see my posting in Big Rigs/Under Glass). Tomy/Ertl in their Big Farm series have released a 1/16 scale Peterbilt 367 with a detachable neck lowboy. The tractor is very toy-like but this trailer has possibilities! Here is the lowboy with my Kenworth and scratch built drop-deck flatbed to give an idea of size. Note, a kingpin will need to be installed to be compatible with the Revell/Monogram 5th wheels.Comparison of the trailers. Some painting and maybe a few added details would result in a presentable shelf model.Outriggers extend in unison from the trailer deck.Neck detaches with a tab and keylike mechanism. Not scale but it is hidden underneath and seems plenty strong enough to display with a load.Rear bumper and deck detail.Front deck detail. Note the "key" for neck retention (this is not visible from above when assembled)Simplified suspension and wheel/tire detail. This one will soon recieve an upgrade of 3D printed 2 hole wheels amd R/M kit tires.Simplified neck hydraulics could be replaced with scratch built cylinders or simply covered with treadplate. All in all, not a bad representation, with some paint and a few details a decent representation could be made and the Big Farm series (and Bruder) offers some interesting choices of equipment for loads. Here it is big scale truck modelers! Note that prices vary greatly on eBay and other on line sources. I paid $52.99 usd for mine at Rural King a regional ag retailer, in my local store. kilrathy10 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) This is a very good representation for a toy.....I'm diggin' it.....Looks like I'm gonna have to check to see what Tractor Supply has, now.....A buddy of mine just texted me about some 1/16 scale models there..... kilrathy10 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Already have some Bruder toys....This may jump start my building lull.....
chuckyr Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Looks like the trailer could be worked with. New Ray has a 1/24th scale Peterbilt, lowboy combo that seems to be similar in design. Maybe a scale down version of this same mold even. I have seen modelers really make it look good. BTW, this appears to be an exact 1/16th scale, while the Bruder and Tamiya trucks are 1/14th scale. Expect the side by side size comparisons to be difference
