1972coronet Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I had absolutely no idea that Hudson Motor Car Company was the very same Hudson of Hudson's Department Store fame ! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Motor_Car_Company For what-ever reason(s) , I never followed their history ; the most that I knew about Hudson was their engine (the big-displacement 6 cylinder) , and that my paternal grandfather owned one in c.1949 . This kit looks like it belongs in my collection ! That is one sweet 1/4 miler ! Q-Stock ! Whoa !Does the kit have the Hydra-Matic trans or is it a manual ?***Anecdotal history dressed in humour for my fellow Rock & Roll fans : Hudson's , the department store in Detroit , refused to carry the MC5's 'Kick Out The Jams' due to the presence of a foul word ( which I won't intimate any further here ) . So , the MC5 took out an ad in one of the fledgling underground magazines ; the crux of which was a resounding "_____ Hudson's !" emblazoned in the ad , along with the Elektra Records' logo . Hudson's then called Elektra --- largely a Jazz label in 1968 --- and said , "We're pulling every Elektra record from our shelves due to the advertisement !" .***
Brett Barrow Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Would the narrow slicks AMT put in many of their '60s kits be more accurate? I have a few sets. They use the hollow tire/lugs on wheels system so they'd probably need to be modified. The kit has a manual.
horsepower Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 (edited) Would the narrow slicks AMT put in many of their '60s kits be more accurate? I have a few sets. I was looking at the ones in the"Grumpy" Bill Jenkins Nova kit and they look to be around the right width, if you want to you could use a razor saw to add a couple of radial grooves to each tire for a proper "cheater" slick look. Brett Barrow Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 The perfect tire would be in the Slingster, the problem is it's for a 16" wheel.
Brett Barrow Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) If anybody's building this car, DO NOT use Moebius' recommendation of Algerian Blue. It's not this color at all (maybe it was painted that when new) I should have done a bit more googling before ordering some. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ oh well, it's still a pretty cool color. It's possible it was G-158 Beret Blue but I would bet it was repainted with something more metallic than either original Hudson color Edited March 21, 2017 by Brett Barrow
64Comet404 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I picked up the kit a couple of days ago. Although it does look good, I wish Moebius had tooled up the standard bumpers (without guards) for these versions. My Modelhaus bumpers are packed away, so I can't check on how close they are to stock. I agree with Brent on the paint; to my eyes, it looks like the 1:1 was painted with Ford Guardsman Blue, or something very similar.
