da_ashman Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) Hey Guys Finally starting on this project. Building Bumblebee from Transformers 4 (well the beginning anyway, until he turned into the 2016 concept...) Its a pretty bad ass design, mostly stolen from the guy who built the Vengence Camaro. But thats a whole other story... Car was recently sold at Scotsdale Barret & Jackson auctions, seller was Micheal Bay who directed the Transformers movies I love the mix of Matte Black & Glossly Carbon Fibre. Almost 2 yrs ago I quickly snapped up one of C1 Models resin transkits. & finally managed to pick up the plastic kit that it goes with. Little dispointed with the fit, some of the parts seem a little small, but im sure i'll manage to make it work. Contents of the Transkit I love these wheels! There so awesome & massive!!! 3x larger than the stock wheels. Bumblebee is a restomod & had a modern engine & a more modern interior which I'll try to replicate. Ive got some spares from my Camaro SS-x Build (still slowly being worked on), mostly the engine & the seats. Ive got to scratchbuilt the centre consol & modify the dash. & build a Tigercage too. engine is from Revell 08 Camaro SS, not sure if this is 100% accurate but loos good enough to me. & this is where Im at, aside from widening the bonnet ive attached the lower valance. needed to be cut into 3 pieces to fit properly. Still plently of work to do. I do have a question for you guys tho, Im trying to replicate the side undercut (where the chrome trim goes) its been removed on the 1:1, but Revell has molded it inplace. ANy ideas whats best to do? I had thought of just sanding it off & not worrying about the undercut line, but thought I might give it a go. Hopeing to get this one all painted up over the christmas holidays, (great time to get some painting done down at the bottom of the world, sunny & hot) Ash Edited August 15, 2017 by da_ashman
DrKerry Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Ashley, looking at the real car versus the kit, to me it looks as if the real car has an overhang in the trim area and if you sand off the kit chrome it will be flat and no reveal line there. If it were me building the car I'd take a carefully fill the upper part of the trim line to fill it in with the door to the trim. Then sand it down til you hit the trim, thus leaving a bit of an overhang to give you the reveal line as on the real car... Hope that makes sense??!!
ProZach Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 You might have already thought of this, but incase you haven't -http://www.dirtmodeler.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=153&product_id=436

Cheers!!!! I think id only really be able to use the smallest ones tho. I was looking at getting the A+ Club chrome stickers https://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/shop/acms017.html but might get these instead
ProZach Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I've ordered ALOT of parts from them and their quality is Awesome!!! I saw your build theme with the Transformer on the engine and thought this photo etch would really look cool. I'm looking forward to following this build.
CarLover Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 (edited) Nice start! Here is some details and photos, from the auction pagehttp://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1967-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-SS-TRANSFORMERS-BUMBLEBEE-190235I also got one of those! I started to build it in at the same time with other projects because it has a lot of putty and sanding, need to wait until the putty cured, later I'll post pictures of mine Edited December 15, 2016 by CarLover

da_ashman Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Hey Guys! Been awhile since i last updated this thread, ive been on my summer holiday, had 3 weeks off work with plenty of jobs to do around the house & plently of time (& perfect weather) for model painting! I planned to get 7 kits all painted up ready to be assembled & ended up with 8 kits painted & 2 left to paint the bodys on... Bumblebee being one of them! He certainly took quite a bit of work to get painted. I tried to keep the undercut on the sides but my plan didnt work & I lost it. oh well, it still looks good without it. Had to fill in all the seam & panel lines too. Bumblebee got a healthy coat of gloss black ready for the decals & will be clearcoated matte once theyre on. I left the flares off the body for now as they are glossy carbon fibre & dont want to risk masking the clearcoated carbon flares. Everything for the exterior of the car has been painted, & just needs final clearcoats (Gloss & Matte) I still havent started on the interior, thats a job for next week. I'll get some better pics of more of the parts in the next few days & hopefully get some decals on!!! Stay tuned Ash
da_ashman Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Did some decaling last night, still lots to do to trim. Made a bit of a boo boo tho.... never touch the what looks like a water droplet after youve applied Decal Solvent....
da_ashman Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 Firstly cheers to Photobucket for ruining everything Ive ever posted. Rather than try to update each post heres a bulk one with where Im up to. Body painted, decaled & clearcoated. Engine is coming along too. Interior is almost done with just the rollcage & dash to finish. I'm trying to get it finished for a local Model show 1st October. More frequent updates to follow, cheers Ash
da_ashman Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 Hey Guys Another update of my Bumblebee that im building for the Transformers group build. Got the interiort all painted & detailed & mounted to chassis. Also Ive managed to mount the body to chassis with engine etc. On the home stretch now, got the stance right over the weekend & brakes ready.
Mr. Horsepower 78 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Great work can't wait to see it finished
da_ashman Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 Thanks guys, Less than a week to go, better get a hurry on!!! Fender flares were installed over the weekend, rideheight was sorted too. These pics were just mocking up rideheight but are now fixed in position. Lots of little things to tidy up & finish off now.
