crashtastic Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 (edited) I just finished building this rig to honor my dad who passed in June. He drove a car carrier for 34 years and i couldn't think of a better way to honor him. Edited January 17, 2017 by crashtastic
Superpeterbilt Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Nice build. Sorry to hear about your father. Modeling can often be a good way to remember someone, or pay tribute. I still have a truck and trailer on the shelf given to me as a gift by my late brother. Ive also modeled rigs driven by my dad and grandfather. Nice work converting the exhaust for the car hauler. Is this based on his actual truck?
JerseyRed Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 The front bumper matching the trailer is a nice touch. Cool build!
kilrathy10 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Looks great, Man....I particularly like the color for sure....Nice touch with raising the front portions of the trailer to accommodate 8 cars.....Never would have thought of that.....And the rack atop the truck looks awesome.....That is just too cool how you did the stacks......This is, now, one of my favorites.....Great job....
extmcdriver Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Great job, your dad would be very proud!!!

Is this based on his actual truck?this one is based on a truck the company he worked for used to make California runs. He drove one like this when he made thise runs. I have one that i will be working on that was his regular truck he drove 90% of the time.
crashtastic Posted December 20, 2016 Author Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) The rack on the truck is made from balsa wood coated with wood glue to make a smooth non porous surface to make it smooth to take the paint and look like the trailer parts. The other ramps and risers on the trailer are done the same way. The exhaust stacks are made from drinking straws and are spaced to where the cab can still be tilted foward to access the engine.
