gray07 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I went to Walmart after Christmas and went into there discounted isles, and what do I see a 1/24 64 chevy truck with a camper that slides into the bed, I bought 4 of them and the reason I did, think about it we can use the camper in other trucks, its a cool camper , check them out, there made by motor max, oh yeh I bought mine for 9.95 .
mk11 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Here's one of the camper... they've been out for a couple of years now. Needs a little work but a good start... mike

mikemodeler Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 These were model kits???? OR "Die-Cast" toys? They are die cast toys John!
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 (edited) No kiddin, that camper looks AWFUL close to 1/24th-1/25th scales!!!! Whats the inside of it like? (I know some toys come "semi-detailed" so I have to wonder!) I ask as I like to detail up an interior to a camper for the back of a pick-up some day! gray07 Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 it says on the box 1/24, and mine has a 60s chevy, I will try to get picture, the camper is plastic the trucks are diecast
gray07 Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 iam going to mount one on the dodge dually
mk11 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 The trucks in the pic are Franklin Mint diecasts. As for the camper itself, there is no interior detail. It needs some re-engineering both inside and out; you almost never see a 1:1 with more than about 4 inches clearance over the cab. mike
vintagercr Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I bought one a few years ago. They are cool!
disabled modeler Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 We need more campers like this and camping trailer kits...I know I like them.

The modern camper will not fit his truck because the cab is too tall. He was thinking about putting a diesel running gear under the old truck because the Dodge is getting very rusty.
plastic trucker Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 And another thing that is different from the old to the new is that I have a '72 Lake And Shore slide in pop up with a sliding rear door on my '83 Chevy pu now. But when I bought my '94 Chevy to put the camper on, the tailgate was 5 inches to narrow for the camper to fit in.
mk11 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) I think it was the late '50s when they roughly standardized the cab/box/frame measurements amongst the truck manufacturers to make it easier for the aftermarket body/RV suppliers. Chev resized their bodies in '88 and Ford in '04. mike Edited December 30, 2016 by mk11
