Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Here is an exciting one. I love boring models - not so much the cars, but the fact a model company actually made a model of such a mundane, boring car. Here is Tamiya's 2002 Honda Fit - the motorized version! This has probably been at the hobby shop since, 2002? Contents:
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Like most Tamiya kits, the parts are molded beautifully with very little cleanup needed. There are a couple light parting lines that need to removed:
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 I've never done a figure before...ideas...
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 The chassis is all about the motor and steering - no real detail, so I quickly put it together:
Intmd8r Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I've never done a figure before...ideas... Give him a Mullet! Goes well with the handlebars.....
djmcguire Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Make him either a hipster or give him the obligatory beard that seems to be all the rage these days and a Starbucks skinny half-caf mochachinolattefrap with extra whip in his hand...
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) He will be holding something - not a Starbucks drink though...I've got an idea that doesn't involve "the guy" driving Edited January 5, 2017 by Erik Smith
Funkychiken Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I have done one of these kits, it's great (not motorized and without a figure) good luck!
Chuck Most Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 First gen Fit? I'll recommend simulating RTV sealer along the roof seams to keep leaks at bay. Also, driver needs a vape box and the LP sleeve from The Beat's "Wha'ppen?" needs to be somewhere in the car. Speaking of hipsters... why is there no kit of a stock Volvo 240?
belfast boyo Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Make him either a hipster or give him the obligatory beard that seems to be all the rage these days and a Starbucks skinny half-caf mochachinolattefrap with extra whip in his hand... Like mine?
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Going with this duplicolor - don't usually like the metallic, but, what the heck. This car needs a little bling - it doesn't have any under the hood... Tamiya fine white primer underneath.
superbike-shaun Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Oh BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH,that is a serious macro close up!, I actually converted one of these into,an chevy aveo,w/ a little imagination.it came out as dead nuts on.was, for my sis.
djmcguire Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Like mine? Far too 'rough and tubble', my friend...it's got to be perfectly coiffed with lots of mustache wax and you're not even holding a Starbucks! Edited January 5, 2017 by djmcguire
Erik Smith Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Oh BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH,that is a serious macro close up!, I actually converted one of these into,an chevy aveo,w/ a little imagination.it came out as dead nuts on.was, for my sis. Shows up in metallic paint! To reduce the chance of getting more bugs on a total repaint, I just sanded the "bump" and masked off the offending fender.
Erik Smith Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Finished the dash. That red blob looked decent with my naked eye. Looks like "the guy" spilled some organic catsup in the close up. The chrome decal was from sheet of metal transfers (not the Tamiya supplied variety) - they look pretty cool.
Erik Smith Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Paint is on. The glasshouse on this car is relatively large with a lot of "black" glass. Fortunately, Tamiya provides a large mask for all the glass - inside and out, since some of the exterior trim is molded to the glass itself. Should be fun. Edited January 6, 2017 by Erik Smith
Erik Smith Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Some time with scissors and then decanted Tamiya semi gloss black...now to peel all that mask off
Erik Smith Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Glass painted and peeled. I also installed the headlights. They look pretty cool. Tamiya does a fantastic job on their lights. You can see how the inside and outside masks work - brilliant really. I'm glad the masks are included.
Erik Smith Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Also got "that guy" painted and installed - in the back seat...
Erik Smith Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 "Hold my beer, we'll be right back" The name of the model will be "Third Wheel". Got "that guy" installed and now holding precious cargo...two pieces of styrene rod painted polished aluminum.
Erik Smith Posted January 8, 2017 Author Posted January 8, 2017 So this is "that guy's" besty's GF's (best friend's girlfriend's) car, and it didn't look quite nerdy enough - so some whitewalls were in order. I used vinyl stickers.
