Mr Stock Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 First model off the bench from me for 2017. This is the old AMT annual kit of the 1962 Buick Electra hardtop, it's built pretty much box stock except I added a prewired distributor and a top radiator hose made from electrical wire, I also removed the typical annual kit screw posts from the radiator panel. Apart from that I just used simple paint detailing. I hope you like it, it was a fun build, comments and critique welcome.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 She looks great Gary. The color suits the car pretty well. Not the easiest car to foil. I built one in black, and remember it was a major pain.
charger74 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 That is a beautifull buick. Can you tell me the color you used for the engine ?

Mr Stock Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 That is a beautifull buick. Can you tell me the color you used for the engine ?Thankyou Eric, I custom mixed the colour with cheap craft acrylics and finished it with a coat of kleer.
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Nice work Gary!I love the color! Steve
Dann Tier Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Looks beautiful!!, excellent job on the detail painting, and color choices
Mr Stock Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 Nice work Gary!I love the color! SteveThanks Steve, that means a lot coming from you, I hold you in very high regard, you are the man when it comes to getting the most out of these old kits !.
PARTSMARTY Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I love it-great build-great car-great color combo-wow !!!
peekay Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Very nice! Funny how the engine colour, a given if you're building stock, can go so well with the body/interior choices. That's certainly the case here.
hedotwo Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I could swear I see foil around the windshield, but believe you when you say you didn't use it. I've foiled this one and agree it can be a pain. Did you use Alclad or a chrome marker? Looks great whatever you used!

espo Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 This and all the other kits from this era were very basic. It is amazing to see what a little extra effort in detailing and adding things like hoses and wires really brings this kit alive.

That's certainly the case here.I totally agree Peter, the Buick engines of this period were a nice colour anyway sort of a teal blue, the camera on my phone makes the colour look a bit more vivid than it is in person.

Available on Amazon, but not locally here, so the costXbenefit is way off for me. The taxes and freight would triple the cost easily. And I would use it mainly to retouch chrome parts, like the spots where they were attached to the sprues.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I guess I'm one of those crazy as guys that likes to foil. The bigger pain the better Nothing more relaxing than foiling AMT's '58 Impala kit...
