The Creative Explorer Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Just got my eyes on the new Italeri releases for 2017, mostly reissues, but with one new mold: 3652 Renault 5 Alpine (Esci reissue)3708 VW 1303s Beetle (already in program)3709 VW 1303s Beetle Convertible (already in program)4703 Fiat 500F (NEW MOLD)3653 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider 1600 (reissue)3654 Lancia Stratos (reissue)3655 Ford Escort MKII (Esci reissue) Next to some reissued trucks, there is also a new truck3927 Scania S730 Highline 4x2
The Creative Explorer Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Wait, wut? I was already thinking of the use of a new Fiat 500 mold, since there are already a few on the market (Tamiya, Gunze), but the Fiat 500 will be a 1:12 car!I find that exciting :-) I hope it will be a little bit milder priced than the Mefistole and that other 1/12 Fiat.
charlie8575 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 A 1/12 500? So it'll be big enough to see what you're building? Cool. Charlie Larkin
stitchdup Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Looking forward to the escort, it'll save me cutting up my esci releases and go well behind the transit
Snake45 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I might have to get the Lancia Stratos. Missed that one last time around, and I wanted one because I saw a real one painted a color very similar to '70 Mopar Sub Lime.

Missed that one last time around, and I wanted one because I saw a real one painted a color very similar to '70 Mopar Sub Lime. The Italeri one is an incredibly crude curbside. Better off going for the Hasegawa one if you don't mind a curbside with better detail. Or go off hunting for one of the Enthusiast Series Fujimi ones if you want full detail.

I built that and am more or less satisfied with it. Is it better than the ESCI SWB 250? I have that one (AMT boxing) and it makes me almost vomit every time I think about maybe building it.

afx Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 (edited) Looking forward to the escort, it'll save me cutting up my esci releases and go well behind the transit With about a year's worth of effort and some nice Fireball Modelworks wheels/tires the Esci Escort can be made to look like this. Well if this is what you're looking for in a model - have at it. Again the Hasegawa kit is 100% better and is still a curbside.
stitchdup Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 With about a year's worth of effort and some nice Fireball Modelworks wheels/tires the Esci Escort can be made to look like this. That's pretty cool, I like the lighter blue on the wheels, nearly sure there's one similar to yours in the classic rallying at the moment. I did this to the revell release (was my first build when I started again) I would like to make one of the releases this year into a 4 door so I can build my old one, but I would like to see the zackspeed version released the most
afx Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 (edited) Agreed the Hasegawa/Revell is a much better kit. And if you want the ultimate Stratos get the Fujimi EM. Edited February 1, 2017 by afx

dublin boy Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 The Stratos builds up nicely, great to see the Mk2 Escort coming back out though. I wonder who owned the molds when Revell repopped it?
Jordan White Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I am intrigued by the 1/12 500F, though it all depends on the price. Since the truck kits seem to go for 30 bucks and up around here, I'm thinking probably high double digits.
Cliff Dagger Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Are the Revell and Esci Escort the same kit ?
stitchdup Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Are the Revell and Esci Escort the same kit ? yes, possibly the decals are different,
afx Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 There where several different versions of the Esci kit. The kits where the same except for decals and of course one had the body molded in clear plastic. The Zakspeed kit was a touring car and had a slightly different body style.
The Junkman Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) Italeri has a 275 GTB, a 365 GTB/4 Daytona, a 250 SWB, 365 GTB Daytona etc, etc in their mold library and these are what they come out with? I'm not a Tifosi by any means but if you're going to reissue, I listed a bunch that would probably cause more buzz. But my opinion is worth what Italeri paid for it. keyser Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 The Stratos was also issued as a Nitto in Alitalia Logo, and Esci in several, including the black Pirelli logo. Curbside but body, wheels, and interior ok. Need to smooth a few things out. It can only be built as a wide body Gr4. The Hasegawa is nice kit, body is a strada with add on flares. zi actually think the Italeri rear wheels look better. Their strada version is nice. Fujimi Stratos is great, but I only have strada. I don't recall them ever doing a Gr4 widebody, did Fujimi? Here's nice pic of strada and Gr4 Strati, with Stratos 0 in background on L PS, JC, please leave a Mk II Escort for me?
lysleder Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 My biggest gripe with the ESCI Stratos is not the lack of detail or, well , to be honest - The rear engine cover does open, and there is a representation of an engine back there, sort of - but no need to dwell on that. I find the proportions of the body to be off. Especially at the greenhouse area. On the other hand, it is good to see the Escort out again! It seems to be in demand still, and sell well every time it is released. That said, given the quality of the kit, and the apparent popularity of the subject, I'd suggest maybe it is time for a new one. A newly tooled kit that is. The Renault is cool. It is no better or worse than the Escort, but somehow I like it.
The Creative Explorer Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 I am intrigued by the 1/12 500F, though it all depends on the price. Since the truck kits seem to go for 30 bucks and up around here, I'm thinking probably high double digits. What I am affraid off, is that the European price will be over 100 euro's. Which is steep and in Tamiya territory, I don't even think the Tamiya Mini hits that. But it is purely speculation, based on their prices for the 1/12 Fiat racers, Let's hope I am wrong.@lysleder; The Renault is basic, but it does build into a decent model.
keyser Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I've got a Revell Gr4 Stratos, one in a Lodela box, one in a huge flat box. Full detail, decent body, maybe a little coarse. Wheels look a bit small. 80's box art on Lodela it seems. Nothing like the Italeri/Esci/Nitto. Full engine. IIRC open deck louvers. No pics at hand, has this ever been reissued? Until the Hase and Fuj issues, it was the best out there.
