Anyone have a source for an alternative to the Flex-i-Pads, Flex-i-Grit, etc? Those pads are $3.00 each and I was looking for something less expensive.

Dollar Store has a packet of 5 different sizes and grits with 6-8 sticks each. No real fine grits but sure cost effective for the rough stuff.

Local Wal-Mart, Target, drug store, some supermarkets, in the health & beauty section. Trim makes a 7 grit sanding block that works really well, & there are several others. Cost is about a dollar. Now, there is no alternative to something you didn't mention, made by the same company, Creations Unlimited, & that's their Flexi-Files. I swear by them!

Amen to that, most supermarkets and drugstores carry cheap sanding sticks in various grits. I have used them for years, and have never felt the need to buy the more expensive hobby variety (which I suspect is pretty much the same thing in a different bag). I use them as they are, or cut them down to strips, pads or whatever I need at the moment. They usually have a lot of useful tools and gadgets in the health & beauty section, like clippers, files, small scissors etc. The only thing about it is that it feels a bit awkward to shop around in that isle... ;)

And no, there's no substitute for Flexi Files, it's a great product that any modeler should have in his arsenal.
