crazyjim Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Anyone have a source for an alternative to the Flex-i-Pads, Flex-i-Grit, etc? Those pads are $3.00 each and I was looking for something less expensive.
MikeMc Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Go to the barber supply store you can find sanding sticks, blocks and other cool tools
m408 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Dollar Store has a packet of 5 different sizes and grits with 6-8 sticks each. No real fine grits but sure cost effective for the rough stuff.
Olle F Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Local Wal-Mart, Target, drug store, some supermarkets, in the health & beauty section. Trim makes a 7 grit sanding block that works really well, & there are several others. Cost is about a dollar. Now, there is no alternative to something you didn't mention, made by the same company, Creations Unlimited, & that's their Flexi-Files. I swear by them! Amen to that, most supermarkets and drugstores carry cheap sanding sticks in various grits. I have used them for years, and have never felt the need to buy the more expensive hobby variety (which I suspect is pretty much the same thing in a different bag). I use them as they are, or cut them down to strips, pads or whatever I need at the moment. They usually have a lot of useful tools and gadgets in the health & beauty section, like clippers, files, small scissors etc. The only thing about it is that it feels a bit awkward to shop around in that isle... And no, there's no substitute for Flexi Files, it's a great product that any modeler should have in his arsenal.
