Earl Marischal Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 First off, are there any UK published car modelling mags? I've never seen any in the shops. Military, aircraft, wargaming and railway modelling by the acre; cars...nothing. There is at even one farm modelling mag for heaven's sake!I'm not talking about the die-cast collector titles, what I'm looking for is a hands-on car modelling mag like "Model Cars" or the Kalmbach one.As an aside, finding these in hard copy is nigh on impossible as they are as rare as hen's teeth. Before anyone says "digital subscription" I don't want every issue.steve
waynehulsey Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 The only one I ever knew of was Scale Models that was around from early 60s to I think into the late 70's. Slanted towards F1 and sports cars so if you're into them it would be worthwhile trying to find back issues. I like the farm modeling mag and the one on plant and construction equipment except they're too into die casts which I guess is understandable since there's not much in plastic kits.
tim boyd Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 (edited) There was a magazine in the early 2000's called "Scale Auto Modeller", pubished by SAM Publications based in Bedford. I wrote a number of articles for the publication. It was eventually folded and incorporated into (I believe) Scale Modeller magazine, at which point I lost interest for the same reasons you list! If you can find back issues, it was a well done magazine in the style of other UK/European modeling publications.....TIM Edited May 23, 2017 by tim boyd
afx Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I suscribed to the magazine Tim mentioned while it lasted.
Mike999 Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Looks like "Truck Model World" magazine is still being published in the UK. I subscribed to that one for a while, thru Amazon. Many of its articles apply to model cars as well, of course. It often features some really complicated conversions and upgrade/detail articles.http://www.newsstand.co.uk/158-Modelling-Magazines/3050-Subscribe-to-TRUCK-MODEL-WORLD-Magazine-Subscription.aspx
socal76 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 JC, how many issues of Scale Auto Modeler did you get while it was being published? I thought it was great just to see all the stuff we don't see in our magazines, just like I am betting the Europeans are doing the same thing for buying what never makes it into their magazines. I can't even count how many Photo-Etch pieces I saw in there that never were mentioned in any of the U.S. magazines.
935k3 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I suscribed to the magazine Tim mentioned while it lasted. I used to buy it regularly. Do you remember the "amazing" Trevor Pask? I never could figure why he was allowed to build for a good magazine.

I was so happy to have some (any) race and rally car model coverage I was willing to pay the premium subscription fee to have it sent to the US. By the end of my subscription it had become a general model magazine as Tim mentioned above. Edited May 25, 2017 by afx
Daddyfink Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 It had some good stuff and some pretty terrible stuff. When I saw what they did to a 1/16th Dragster, that made the cover, I wanted to fly to England and slap the builder!
afx Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) Yea I have a full set Vol 1-Issue 1 through Vol 3-Issue 12. My subscription lapsed a few issues into the new magazine - Scale Models International. Edited May 26, 2017 by afx
