landman Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 (edited) My cousin brought me his 1955 Chrysler 300 asking if I could do something about his paint. It is a well built model with a hand brush paint job. It has been carefully dismantled, stripped and is now in primer. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
mod3l Lover Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Hey Pat, What do you use for removing paint? David S. Quote
426-Hemi Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 I'm NOT Pat, but it looks to be Purple Power Cleaner, or a derivative there of.....HEY David!!!!! Quote
landman Posted June 5, 2017 Author Posted June 5, 2017 Hey Pat, What do you use for removing paint? David S. John's correct here. It is Purple Power. Quote
landman Posted June 5, 2017 Author Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Foiled the emblems then shot it with Duplicolor bright red. Had a run which I wiped off. Looks like it will be salvageable. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
mod3l Lover Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Thanks for the replies! I have tried brake fluid and wasnot happy with how that turned out. It looks real nice Pat! And howdy John!! David S. Quote
landman Posted June 5, 2017 Author Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Gave it another coat. This time Krylon. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
426-Hemi Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Pat,That sure is looking GOOD!!!!! NICE repaint!!!!! Going all red I take it (using Krylon) and then just BMF'ing all the trim? Thats gonna look some sharp! Quote
landman Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 (edited) Started on the foil. Pulled up some paint. Either I'm burnishing too wide or it isn't cured or worse I have poor adherence. I'll give it a few more days. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
Curt Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 My guess would be the Krylon isn't playing nicely with the Duplicolor. Quote
landman Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 My guess would be the Krylon isn't playing nicely with the Duplicolor. Very likely. Quote
426-Hemi Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Yep Krylon is the culprit here..... its reacting with the Duplicolor! (Not adhering) That paint, UNLESS your using it as a base, and then scuffing it to be a flat, to then spray over it with the SAME color, doesn't play well with others...... ALSO it can react to the adhesive on the BMF too! Believe it or not, it DOES...... Somehow that little adhesive leaches into the paint under it, as there had seemed the last time I tried using a adhesive backed stripping, on Krylon paint, lifted as the stripe was trimed and the trimmings removed, took the paint with it! So a couple things could be an issue here, BUT Krylon paint is the start of both issues! I'd almost BET money I ain't got on it...... Reason I'm trying to get rid of as much Krylon paint as I can that I have..... It doesn't do well for craft uses..... Quote

landman Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) Reassembly was progressing well until I broke the rear window trying to polish it. Had to make a new one. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
landman Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) There it is, in the shop, ready to deliver and in the driveway. Edited December 3, 2020 by landman Quote
Draggon Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Nice job on the paint. Cute how you tricked the camera ( I think thats what its called ) by taking the shot in front of your garage. Go couple feet away from the screen and squint your eyes a bit and it looks real! Quote
426-Hemi Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 NICE save Pat!!!! Now I got a dumb question, how'd you get that pic with the garage to look like that? size-wise, the model looks perfectly scales to the real thing! -I got a couple cars I wouldn't mind trying that with if I only knew how! Quote

My 30' garage winds up being 15" or 1:24 or so. Then I put the car in front of it and shoot. Quote
