dodgelover Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 I'm currently in the planning stages of a build I want to do. I want to build 3 models of my 1930 model AA dump truck that I inherited. I can't seem to find a correct dump bed of it. Does anyone know where one might be? Thanks for your help
mikemodeler Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 You will probably have to scratch build one. I don't recall any resin or kit versions of something that old. That said, shouldn't be too hard to replicate if you have measurements or good photos to go off of.
dannyi Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Todd, been working on this dump box of awhile now and it's due back from the printers next week. Though not from the era you want it could be modified a bit to work on a AA, BB truck.
dodgelover Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 I think your right in that it would work. I'd like to know more details of this bed. Thanks for all your help.
1930fordpickup Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Todd this would cool to see one one those old AA's in scale.
dodgelover Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 I think that it is a warrented project as I haven't seen one but also it will be the first time I actually replicate a vehicle I own. It will take a little time but I know it will get done. Thanks for the interest.
Chariots of Fire Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 (edited) Just a thought. A 30's vintage dump body would be pretty basic and might not even have the protective shield over the cab. You should be able to find some examples on line that would help. I found this ad on line. Edited June 21, 2017 by Chariots of Fire
dodgelover Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 Thanks for the help guys. As I said I actually own this truck and my family is sending tons of reference pics. The ad helps a lot as well. I've researched the web and go to AA truck club for all my reference materials. They have tons of pics and lots of information about everything down to which bolts were used where and why. Again thanks for all the help.
mchalal Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Here's one I'm working on, not from 1933 era, but perhaps can be modified. It is a Motor City Resin piece. Nicely cast and easily to work with
1930fordpickup Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Some pictures to look at also. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=1930+model+aa+ford+dump+truck&qpvt=1930+Model+AA+Ford+dump+truck&qpvt=1930+Model+AA+Ford+dump+truck&qpvt=1930+Model+AA+Ford+dump+truck&FORM=IGRE
dodgelover Posted June 24, 2017 Author Posted June 24, 2017 That's a great resource. Thanks to everyone for the help.

gatorincebu Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Danny, Would one of your dump bodies fir the Meng 1/25th crew cab pick up ? be Well Gator
dannyi Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Danny, Would one of your dump bodies fir the Meng 1/25th crew cab pick up ? be Well GatorGator, I'm sure you're referring to the 1/24 Meng F350 and to answer your question I think it would be fine. My design was modeled for the 1/25 Mobius and Revell trucks but the info I got from doing research on the dump beds is that there are tons of styles and sizes. I'll try and do a mock-up with the Meng and post some pics. That'll give you some reference to work with.....
dannyi Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 (edited) It seems to sit a bit high on the Meng because of the pivot brackets. But with a slight frame modification it could be lowered. There is room under the cab cover to bring it down some but not much because of the rear door clearance. You could however trim the side panels on the cap cover to get the needed clearance. dannyi Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 I need to stop looking at your stuff Dan. ...lol....but please don't!
mikemodeler Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 That is looking beautiful Danny, really can tell you spent some time coming up with that design. That dumper looks great on the Meng, gives me an idea of what to do with one of the kits in the stash. Take your time getting it ready, being out of work means I can't spend any money right now and hopefully it will only be a short period of time before I can start spending again.I am guessing this is the first in a line of different types of beds you have in mind for light commercial trucks, hoping the next one is a modern wheel lift wrecker bed!
dannyi Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Thanks Mike, and yes I have a few ideas for various beds. A wrecker bed is definitely coming, working on a couple different designs for those. Other suggestion are welcome also.
mikemodeler Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Thanks Mike, and yes I have a few ideas for various beds. A wrecker bed is definitely coming, working on a couple different designs for those. Other suggestion are welcome also. A fifth wheel flat bed for 1 ton trucks is one idea, a simple utility bed similar to the one The Modelhaus offered would be nice too. Resin tool boxes for the flat bed or pickup beds would be welcomed. Maybe a roll back kit?Take your time, gotta get a job and save some money first!
