Tom99 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I have two of these 1960 Mercury's. This is the first one finished. Both were glue bombs, with a bunch of junk stuck on them with plenty of glue. A lot of body work was required to get it back looking stock. It's painted 1960 Mercury Inlet Blue, and Sultana White; 6
MrObsessive Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Oooooh! That is soooo nice!! I've got a '59 that's been stashed away for years, crying for a resto. It's not a glue bomb per se, just in need of a couple of replacement quarters (which I have), and some missing parts replaced with Modelhaus items which I fortunately got also years ago. I LOVE your colors, and in fact that's one of my favorite color combos for '59-'60 Mercs.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I love seeing the classics restored.
thatz4u Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Very nice, my Grandfather owned one back in the day, lots of memories....
59-Desoto Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Well done, I find a lot of satisfaction in saving these old jewels. Yours is close to the same color combo as a 59 I did few years ago.
satterwhite78 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I can see that pulling into a Stuckeys' roadside store, Dad asking for directions, Mom excusing herself to the Ladies room for a fresh powder and the kids holding Cherry Cokes in one hand and pecan log rolls in the other! Great Save and Great Job!
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Now we're talkin'! I have never been a big Merc fan, especially the ones from the late 50s & early 60s, but this is one that I really like. It was such a radical departure from the overly embellished '59. Much cleaner. I built one of the convertibles a couple of years ago, & have a hard top to build some day. Really nice work Tom! Just in case you weren't aware, those are '59 wheel covers that you used. Steve

My grandfather had a turquoise '60 that I am going to do my hardtop as a tribute to his car.
gtx6970 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Nice one, I have a convertible to do one day. if I ever find stock tail light lenses
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Nice one, I have a convertible to do one day. if I ever find stock tail light lenses Isn't that the truth! It's amazing how many of these '60 Mercs you see built completely stock except for those stupid "balloon" tail light lenses! Steve
Falcon Ranchero Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Really like the 1960 Mercurys; got a little story about one; my grandfather, back in 1960 bought one from some guy for a very reasonable price. Drove it to work one day and when he went to leave the police were waiting for him. Turns out that was a stolen car he bought from a thief. The police believed his story but the car sat outside the police station and eventually rotted away.
TooOld Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Great save Tom , the Mercurys are sharp looking cars ! Love that blue !
Zippi Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The ole 60 Mercury Park Lane glue bomb sure turned out looking pretty nice Tom. That blue and white gives it a nice clean look.
