Snake45 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 These cars are hella cool (better looking than the '69 or '70, IMHO), but refs for them are not exactly thick on the ground. The new issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines has a nice resto feature on a '68 Hemi Super Bee with some good detail pics. It's metallic blue and VERY sharp looking. I'm awaiting a Modelhaus resin '68, and I know a number of us here have either resin repros or restorable glue bombs in the to-do piles.Since we're on the subject, would it be possible to convert the MPC/Modelhaus R/T to a Super Bee? Yeah, I know, anything's possible, but how much trouble would it be, and exactly what would be required?
dieseldog1970 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 OMG....1968 Coronet/Super Bee...my favorite car out of all of them! I look on the bay all the time to see if there are any originals for sale...but the money the people are asking is HUGE!!! Missed my chance at a Modelhaus....so I will have to find a decent resin to purchase to do a replica of the '68 Coronet I had about 20 years back. Cane from the factory with a hair straight back screaming 225 Slant six, I bought a '69 parts car and swapped complete front suspension, motor, transmission, interior as well as rear end and springs! Ditched the six for a 318....did much better burn outs with a V8!!!I WANT one of these in scale....I have...I dunno....about 10 or so ideas for builds!!
Sport Suburban Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Not too difficult I thought. Here is mine. It is all Modelhaus and I used 2 grills, cut them both in half and used the right halfs to remove the R/T emblem. Sanded off the other R/T trim from the sides and rear panel. Dodge letters are photo etch meant foe a challenger hood. Strip is from Fred Cady.
DumpyDan Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 That think is gorgeous, wow nice work Raoul.
Mr mopar Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Southern motorsports has one a very nice casting too ! I'm only starting to like the 68' coronet RT ....
gtx6970 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Biggest issue is going to be removing the molded in rear finish panel. Coronet RT
gtx6970 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) A resin repop of the MPC annual kit pops up on ebay pretty regularly. I have a stryene RT . I avoid resin as much as I can But as much as I want a Superbee at some point I may pull the trigger on one sooner than later' 1968 Bee Edited September 1, 2017 by gtx6970

October issue, BTW, which I failed to mention. Looks like the conversion might be beyond my skill level, especially for something so rare/pricy. Guess I'll just do it as the R/T, then.

But I want to do the Dick Landy car in the background here and Im pretty sure its a Bee.( not 100% though ) So I'm thinking modify a resin body instead. Im just so against resin because there so much junk resin out there I'm reluctant to pull the trigger on one unless I have it in my hands to ck quality first. Edited September 2, 2017 by gtx6970
dodgefever Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 But I want to do the Dick Landy car in the background here and Im pretty sure its a Bee.( not 100% though ) Going by the positioning of the DODGE lettering on the rear panel, and what looks like a red R/T badge on the right, I'd say it's an R/T.

The Landy book has no details, or mention, or photos, of a '68 Super Bee. It does specifically say that he did NOT campaign a 383 Super Bee that year. There are many photos of the R/T. The pic above seems to have been from the same photo shoot as a number of other pics of the Charger and R/T together, and I believe these photos were taken before the SB was even introduced. I believe with a high degree of confidence that the car in the pic is the R/T, not a SB. Unless, of course, someone can come up with a photo or other good evidence.
dieseldog1970 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Biggest issue is going to be removing the molded in rear finish panel. Coronet RT This finish panel on the back was only available on the Coronet 500 and RT, the base Coronet and Super Bee only had the Dodge lettering and some chrome trim...there was some blackout treatment done that went around the outside of the tail lights, but the center was body color. The Blue `68 that Snake posted shows what I am talking about.
