FordRodnKustom Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 (edited) Finally finished this one up. Not my best but not my worst for sure. This thing fought me every step of the way and I'm glad it's done and on the shelf. I learned a lot from it. I started out with this eBay glue bomb. I used the rare original kit custom parts on it and many thanks to Les Gibbens for those! Here it is finished..warts 'n all. As always comments and discussion welcome. Thanks for checking the old Merc out! If interested you can see more in my build album here: https://public.fotki.com/bigfordpilot/my_built_model_cars/built_models/in_progress/62-merc-convertible-2/ Edited September 16, 2017 by FordRodnKustom
Renegade Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Amazing transformation. Doesn"t look like the same kit. Well done.
peekay Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Nice to see the custom version done so tastefully.
Foxer Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 It may have fought you, but you won! Nice job!
disabled modeler Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Nice work... I love those 60s car shapes...long mean and clean build.
Tom Geiger Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Great work! That back panel is sooo cool!
espo Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 All of the custom features of the day. I always liked the cover over the back seat and folded top. This also made it less drafty if you didn't have extra passengers. I remember guys doing this on hardtops also covering the back seat and sometimes a pattern in the meddle. Your wheel and tire combo is very much keeping with the '60's.
cobramike Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 It is true, you were given a lemon and you made lemonade out it. Congrats are in order.
FordRodnKustom Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Thanks all! I thought that custom tail panel was just enough 60's jet/space age crazy to be cool today and in keeping with the '60s vibe I was going for. Glad I was able to get those custom parts. Thanks Les!Glad ya'll enjoyed seeing the Merc.
Alix Bernard Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Ron if this has WARTS I don't want you lookin' at my cars...........beautiful rebuild!!!!!!!
Maindrian Pace Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Great kustom, I like the relocated taillights in the rear panel; I always thought the stock '62 Merc taillights looked weird.
TooOld Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 I love it ! The early 60's Mercury doesn't get enough recognition either full size or in scale . Your '62 glue bomb is gorgeous to my eyes . . . great save !
