Great work on this Dodge! The problem with this Lindberg kit is definitely the stance as the front end is way too low if built box stock. But looks like you fixed it really nicely, it looks really good now. Sharp detailing on the engine too... Keep the pictures coming.;)

Great job!! It is a good kit but you just have to forget what a 64 330 Dodge looks like and you can be happy with it. I built Dick Landy's car with that kit and it went together good. I won two first place trophies with it and then a lady knocked off the table with her pocketbook.

Looking good John.

@Nick,  that's a good point, and those pics from the museum are a great reference, I have a few of those too.

Also, lots of pics from back in the day show that the "Color me Gone" Dodges were indeed lower than many of the other teams' cars.

Just my opinion, the Lindberg model looks weird when built stock.  The dimensions for the front fenderwell and tire just don't match up.  The tire looks lost in the huge opening.  Granted, the 64 Dodge had a huge bumper up front, and the Lindberg model just magnifies this particular attribute,  my opinion.

The real car did look good when jacked up in front to match the standard Super Stock springs that were factory parts, hung out back.

John,  I'd like to show a few pics here of a Lindberg build which took a lot of work to get the car riding a lot higher than the model specs.  The ride height was more normal for the S/S cars that I remember seeing.  Not jacked up, just not crouched like the model.  Just 2 pics;

The fronts are 1:25 tires, too short for the wells.  Look at the long space from the front lip up to the bumper.  Plus, I should've painted the inner wells black, as apparently on the original race car, it would've helped.  Just I like Mopars with body color everywhere, the car was a white car.  Also, I used slicks, wider too than the very puny looking 7" deals.  The door posts are also filed down.

Sorry John,  no hijack was intended.  The Lindberg Dodge is a great model,  but it's way out of whack in a couple of areas.

If you PM me, I'll delete this post if you like.

Looking good there John, I just picked up a "Color me gone" kit also the other weekend and decals just to do Hemi Honker so I'm following closely to your build, you and Michael say the kit tires are too small, where did you get the replacement tires? Looking forward to the next update, Thanks and keep up the good work, Rick

10thumbs, no problem with the pictures I did file the posts down a little, but I didn't want to go too far so they may still be too thick.

Rick, 10thumbs said to use a front tire from a 1/24 scale model to fill the front wheel well. I still need to see what I have. My picture has the kit front tire, but I think his picture is the 1/24 tire.

I agree the kits front tires may be just a tad to small. But not much. And yes they are all  based on the actual Color Me Gone car pictured

( FYI, it is NOT the original car raced by Roger Lindamood back in the day . Its a real max wedge car, just not THE actual car

Also, keep in mind  these old Mopars used a torsion bar front suspension so they may sit lower in the front at rest ( as opposed to coil spring equipped GM or Ford cars of the period )

But the nose would rise dramatically at take off  to appear the same as the competition

Here's a good side by side of the exact same model , Only difference is I flipped the front spindles to get the nose of the car just a touch taller in front . Same kit, exact same tires and wheels , neither one has had the body or wheel well altered in any way

The Dodge Boys car sits about right.

The Butterfly car is as the instructions call for,,which is a just a tad to low. IMO

I agree with Bill, good pics there bud.

Look though at the 1st pic on your 1st post, even there the car sits at a more normal height, which to me looks to be much better than the Lindberg model.  The Lindberg deal is just too low, and as a model does not do proper justice to the way these cars looked back in the day.

Also, Bill you're right.  The 'Iron Butterfly' model is way too low.  Those guys were fans of a higher ride height as many internet pics show.

This is all my opinion, sorry again if this disturbs.

John, I hope to have not outstretched your tolerance.

Greetings.

More done pictures. I put a picture of Bud beside his car in the display case. He was quite a guy. He flew for the Navy in the Korean War and the Air Force in Vietnam. I found a story that said he drove an old school A/FX funny car from where it was built for him in Ohio to his shop in PA. he said he had to be careful at the toll booths since the car had open headers, and the state police were often near the tool booths.

That turned out great! You can never have too many Vintage Super Stock cars! Nice to see a different version of this kit than the Color Me Gone/Maverick/Ramchargers version we usually see built from this kit. Nice job with the paint and decals. Great job!

Hi John, just excellent!

The car really looks good set up like this,  the 'Hemi Honker' is a great choice for this kit and it sits just right.

I like that the rear wheels are well clear of the upper fender lip, and nice detailing of the steel rims as well.  This model really looks good in this livery,  and reminds me of the way so many of them looked back in the day.

Well done!

Thanks W-409 and 10thumbs. I really wanted this one to come out nice so I took my time with it. I have a Ramcharger Dodge that I want to build into a diffrent version, plus a Dyno Don 61 Impala and a 62 Bel Air to do a Hayden Proffit build. I've built an Arnie Beswick Catilina that are done, plus I made a Pontiac Tempest funny car into a an Arnie version. Thanks to Photobucket those pictures are go, but once it get cold here I want to start getting new pictures of my older builds.
