Mark Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Nope, they weren't really doing current car kits in the mid-Sixties, other than the '62 Mopars (the sales of which might explain why they didn't stay with those). The first Revell Mustang kit would probably have been either the '69 coupe, or the 1/32 scale '68 fastback. Just watch, someone will chime in and bring up the fighter plane which they probably did before either of these...
Daddyfink Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 I would have to say this is it. The 1/24th ones are all Monogram and so it the 1/32nd Shelby one.

Greg Myers Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 All the Revell 65-66 Mustangs are 1/24. These were Monogram or Revelogram at best.
Mark Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 The early issues of the 1/24 scale Mustang kits were Monogram, a few years before the tie-in with Revell.
Snake45 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Well, I think they came out at the same time in 1969 Not sure when the Revell 1/32 P-51B came out, but 1969 could be about right. But long before that they had a 1/72 P-51D in the catalog. Most experienced airplane modelers have that kit very high up on the "Worst Kits of All Time" list. It's just horrendous.

Recently acquired another one and oh man, it has issues! I am just still amazed that Revell keeps pumping it out despite the fact that even the old Hasegawa kit is miles ahead.

Luc Janssens Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) If you could find one of these, bet it would cost almost as much as a 1:1 Love that coupe body.Pure nostalgia I think cus the contents of that kit is a notch above Palmer like.I wonder why no love for the coup, (except the old tired Amt ex-promo, turned into kit and the recent '90s from Revell)Would love a '67-68 coupe and 'vert version from the '67 Amt/ertl era Fastback.Or an whole newly designed 1/25th scale '69-70 series, Coup, 'vert, fastback...Oh well... Force Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) The first kits of the 1/24 1964-5-6 Mustang kits above was released in 1985, one year before Revell and Monogram was bought by Odessey Partners Of New York in 1986 and was merged into one company, but Revell and Monogram lived on as separate brands until 1996-7 when all the models from them were released under both names, later the Monogram name was dropped and all Revell and Monogram models were branded Revell...the Monogram name was later re-instated for some models by Hobbico who now owns the brands. The largest problem for those who try to keep up with the origins of model kits is that there are nothing to tell what the model kits originally was as they could be issued under any of the two names regardless of origin...but one rule of thumb is that Revell never did any 1:24th scale kits as they used the 1:25th scale, Monogram on the other hand did most of their kits in that scale...so if the kit is in 1:24th scale it's originally a Monogram kit, some late Monogram kits were also released in 1:25th scale...but that was after the Odessey buy and the companys merged into one.
