So, I joined a fun CBP titled "Swap-N-Build. The idea is that the entrants are paired off and each person in the pair sends the other a "surprise" kit to build. It can either be something that the builder is comfortable with, or if the other feels like it he can make them stretch their boundaries. The rules are that you can not tell the other what you are sending and you MUST build it, although any way you see fit.

I was paired with Jason (68 Shortfleet) and he sent me this.

Although I have never built this kit it is not outside of my tastes for kits. So, I thought that I would try to build it differently than I normally would. After a brief search through the interweb I found many pictures of what I would normally build (stock, surf Woody, hot rod, rat rod, etc)

Then I stumbled upon these two pictures and knew I had the basis for my next build.

I LOVE THEM!!! I have not seen this done yet.

Stay tuned and, please, follow along.

Thanks Steve. Getting an early start on it today. Plan is to replace all of the outer plastic "wood" panels with real wood. A slow process.

You're going to need a G-scale layout to run her on.  :D

Im thinking of running to the model train store on Friday to pick a brain or two.

Be careful... I've been kicked out of a couple of  model train shops for being a model car guy!  Keep on working on your project "Swap-N-Build" it's going to be killer! -KK

How about posting more info about the "Swap-N-Build" in the GENERAL section for everyone to see or did I miss it? -KK

It is down in the Community section. Lots of cool things going on down there.

Got Dark Side of the Moon playing on the turntable and going to finish removing the "wood" panels. Then I'll probably start on the engine and some other bits.

Took a bit longer than I thought to get the last of the panels removed. Also did a bit on getting the hood to square up. Shaved down a bit of extra plastic on the cowl.

Now to clean up and off to bed.

Got some time at the bench tonight. Glued together most of the parts that needed assembled for painting. Seats, front and rear axle parts. The boring stuff for an update. But then, using the following picture as a loose guide I began the cow catcher.

And that's about it for the night. I'm hoping to spray some primer tomorrow on the body.

Now it is off to bed. Got a busy day tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

What will you be using for the real wood?

Boxes of cigars have thin sheets of dark wood to separate the layers; you can also get 1/32" and 1/64" birch plywood at hobby/craft shops, but it will require staining.

Thanks guys.

BTD- I have a sheet of Birch and a sheet of something darker. Not sure what it is. I am going to use the Birch.

Tonight's work. Not much done but this took a bit of time between phone calls.

I'll have to wait till I get back to my shop at work to prime and paint. It has been raining here all weekend. Not good for spraying in my uninsulated garage.

Thanks David. Next is some primer and paint. I haven't seen anybody else's build threads on here yet.

Im stalled atm. I work weekends, Monday, Tuesday are my days off so I'll get going tomorrow. Plus, unlike your weekend, it's really warm and sunny here so I'm getting what I hope to be my last weekend of yard work done. Suppose to be rainy the rest of the week here so I'll have lots of build time after today.
