Question for the resin experts. I have one of the Dukes of Hazard Dodge Monaco police cars.

Does anyone make conversion parts to turn this into a Plymouth Fury? Grille, tail lights, etc?

Does it need anything different other than the grille?

Also, I wonder what the reasoning was for the goofy wide tires in the kit. Definitely fixing that!

Want to turn this into the car I learned to drive in. :)

Using the search box here and entering "Plymouth Fury" turned this up:

Long OOP, but you might stumble across this somewhere:

Here's another possibility. It should be easier to get than the resin conversion kit above.

Find a YODEL 1/24 scale CHP Dodge Monaco as shown in the pic, Kit Number YPM-1. It has the grille and taillights in the box to build either a Dodge or Plymouth, complete with the tiny "Plymouth" lettering on top of the grille.  IIRC, the MPC kit has the center, body-colored Dodge grille bar molded in. So you'd have to get rid of that.  And do some fiddling because the YODEL parts are 1/24.  But after robbing the Plymouth parts, you'd still have the parts left to build the YODEL kit as a Monaco.

Of course, you could just build the YODEL kit like the Plymouth in your pic.  I'm assuming you want to use the MPC to stick with 1/25 scale or something.  The YODEL kits turn up on eBay pretty often, sometimes with outrageous prices.

You'll have to be careful because I'm not sure YODEL put the Dodge and Plymouth parts in all these kits.

They released these Pl-odges in many different versions. Some had an electric motor, some didn't. Some are pre-painted in black & white, some are molded in one color.  I know the CHP kit pictured has both grilles/taillights because I have that exact kit. It also comes with a radio console, shotgun and a service revolver.

These kits are sort of clunky and under-detailed, but they have a weird charm about them I really like. And I've never tried to use the YODEL parts on the MPC Dodge.  But maybe somebody in here has.

The Yodel grille is a way to go, just kinda expensive for the grille piece alone though. On Ebay, I've bought several Fury grilles from a guy with a shop called campesinoplastic2014. He made entire Fury resin trans kits. I've been bugging him for a few months to put some more out, but he's been silent on Ebay for a while.

It sure could be. But here's an NYPD Plymouth with the electric motor missing. It's only up to $12.37 with 2 bids on it. I would pay that much, just for the police parts, dog-dish hubcaps, etc:

This one has both sets of taillights, but not the Dodge grille.  Weird. Could be that the grille was removed, or was never supplied.  Or is just not in the photos.

Thanks guys. The wheels are an easy fix, already have something more correct in the stash.

Going to do some more searching, see if I can track down one of these Yodel kits. Or some resin.

A lot of the time on EBay, guys won't ship to Canada. So that link above unfortunately has to be left alone.

Glad I clicked it. I've ID'd the rear bumper in my parts box.  :)

It's the tail lights which really make or break the Fury conversion IMHO. '78 Plymouth Fury:

'78 Dodge Monaco:

Hard to tell if the clear (good!) rear lenses in the Yodel kit are correct or close to it, though.

FYI, the dog dish "Police" hubcaps are garbage in the Yodel kits. Not even close to the multi-holed look of the real thing. The smooth, chrome plated pieces in the 1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Road Runner kit are the best choice IMHO as far as ready to use covers are concerned.

I have the Yodel "BigAmerican" (Street Machine) Plymouth Fury- IIRC, it comes with the Fury Grille only, but it comes with two sets of taillights. I'll check it when I get home and post something tomorrow.

Also- in regards to the dog dish caps in the Yodel Kits kits - yes, they are sub-par.

Fireball Modelworks does a set of Police vented dog dish caps with 6-hole police steel wheels, and those caps are really beautiful.

The Revell '70 Road Runner caps are great, too- but unlike Fireball's caps, the Road Runner caps do not have the vent holes in them- they're much more like the earlier style ('70-74) cap. Also, the Revell 6-hole wheels are not very nice.

Personally, I think the Yodel Fury/ Monaco's body is a little misshapen. I would much prefer to start with the AMT/ MPC 1/25 car, perhaps the Yodel bits can be adapted to the AMT/ MPC kit.

Lastly- I believe Missing Link resins (Kevin Lutz) does an earlier Fury Grille in resin...it's a nice repop of the MPC '75-'76 Road Runner grille. You could use that, but then you would either need a '75-'76 "Fury" Road Runner front bumper (which has no turn signals in it, since they're in the grille in a '75-'76 Fury), or you would have to fill the turn signals in a later Monaco front bumper and replate it. Also, you would have to come up with round headlights. For the headlights, you could probably just remove the quad headlights from the Monaco bezels, build a new back, and put the larger round "high beam/low beam" headlights of your choice in them. That's why the old Scale Squads piece for the earlier Fury is a one-piece part- which includes the header panel / grille/ headlights and front bumper all in one.

Sorry, you're right, they aren't correct for a '77+ Mopar "police" application.

There's a Fury grille on the Shapeways site, but the lettering looks oversized.

I would love for a resin caster to make a set of parts that makes the Goon Car more accurate.

His reason why is on his YouTube page here.

Too bad. He offered some killer AMC pieces.

Here’s my public service for the week...

- pics of my Yodel “BigAmerican” Plymouth...

Notice that the box art is super-nice. I’m thinking of cloning one of these street machines from an AMT Monaco...

The gray rear bumper in the first pic is an AMT 1/25 bumper...these taillights seem to fit it very well. You’ll see in the last two pics that the stock steel wheels and hubcaps are nothing to get excited about...

Definitely making note of that.

I have another resin piece incoming (apparently it's shipped already) but I'll keep that oen in mind if I'm not happy with this one. Actually, I may just grab one of those anyway.

A few months ago on eBay, somebody sold a lot of 6 different YODEL police kits:  CHP/LAPD/NYPD/NY Port Authority/San Diego Sheriff/New Jersey State Police.  IIRC, the lot went for a little over $100.  I've been kicking myself ever since that I didn't bid (as I often do on eBay).  I just checked eBay Completed Items for the auction but couldn't find it.
