89AKurt Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 I'm going to lurk this topic! Pico: Do I spy a Ferrari Lusso on the back of the bench? What kit is that?
Pico Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 The Lusso I modified from a 330 LMB, about 21 years ago. I painted it red but since then decided that looked a bit too common and so I am now repainting it in Gravity Colors MB Ice Blue. I have displayed it over the years but, oddly, it never drew much interest. I cast the body and sent it to an English builder that I swapped kits with , who when he quit building, sent it to Scalekraft. So it is the basis of his kit. Unfortunately, he went out of business about 11 years ago. The Lusso is my favorite Ferrari and in my top ten favorite cars.

They need a fair amount of rework and I do intend to kit it. I can't honestly say when that is going to happen but it will. It could take a few years. Can't wait!
Pico Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 After some problems with the hood and hinging it, I have applied the first coat of paint. Hope to see everyone at the Philly NNL on March 10 at the Simeone Museum.
shaunmza Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I am dabbling with 3d printing and model kit building together. I print at home with an FDM printer so it's not the best quality, still fun though Seeing the level of quality on your prints and the work you do blows my mind!
Pico Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 Glad ya like! My printerguy has a resin printer, the layers seems to melt together; giving a much smoother surface.
Eric Macleod Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I really like the color. It looks spot on. How much surface prep did you have to do?
Pico Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 Not much surface prep - several coats of primer and light sanding. Much less than Shapeways' materials. I'm sold on resin printer quality.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) Seriously, a thing of great beauty. Most impressive, perfect color too. Are you planning to have her at this Sunday's ACME meeting? Edited March 2, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
Spex84 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 Beautiful. I am very, very curious to know exactly what kind of printer this was printed on, because the results appear to be excellent.
Pico Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 It is a resin printer, I don't know thew make but can check. PM me for contact info on the printerguy.
Pico Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 BMF and clear coat are on, dashboard is in, windows are next. Completion by Thursday night, in order to take it to the Philly NNL on Saturday at the Simeone Museum. Hope to see everyone there! I will be wearing a black shirt with an ACME logo and giving out flyers for our show, the Southern NNL on November 3. Drop by and say hi.
Pico Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 All finished and I'm packing to attend the Philly NNL; everyone here is going, right?
Eric Macleod Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 I only wish i could. It would be an honor to meet you in person. Great model!
mecklm Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Wow, that is fantastic! Different background and it will easily pass for a 1:1. I'd love to see the finished engine compartment with that cool little V8 in it. Mike
Pico Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 Bilingham (see above) made the wheels. Thanks, Bill!
Zoom Zoom Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Awesome Pico! Maybe I'll get lucky and see a real one on Saturday (they moved it again due to rain for Sunday) at Amelia Island...I think it will be a bit warmer than Philly
mecklm Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Very nice to see the engine installed. Those are some cool headers. I couldn't really tell from your photo of the raw engine print on page 1 - are the headers printed as part of the engine or are they separate prints? Either way, excellent job on the detail painting of the engine. I applaud you for creating the print with an opening hood and a detailed representation of the engine! Too often models like this are done as curbsides and you miss out on the motive power. In the case of the Supersonic, I'm liking the engine just as much as the body. Thanks for sharing! Mike
Psychographic Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 It's amazing how many cars I've learned about on this site. This is a great subject and you did a fantastic job building it. It must be very rewarding to tell people you not only built it, but that you designed the files needed to make it.
