D. Battista Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Just seen a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500 KR go for $185,000... I always enjoy watching....!
cobraman Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I'm watching but can't afford a darn thing !

DumpyDan Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Ya I have been watching since Tuesday prices were better then
espo Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I enjoy watching BJ and Mecum both. While I have always leaned toward Mecum and have even sold a truck thru them here in KC I was amazed at some of the good prices in the early days of the auction at BJ . There were many cars out of most peoples reach, but they had any more that seemed better priced then what I have seen at Mecum. Always interesting to watch all of the great cars.
Dragline Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 My customer MS Classic cars has a few up tonight. I rode in a few and they are nice but prices are NUTS,.
imarriedawitch Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 If you ever get the chance to go you should do it. I went to the Las Vegas auction in October and had a great time. While the cars are expensive a general admission ticket isn't. I had a 3 day pass for $45. Check out the Dodge thrill rides, free with admission.
vamach1 Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 71 Boss 351 with < 900 miles went for $175K at Mecum. Not many Mustangs and some of the Mach1s were reasonable. The MPC Bosss kit is still bad- LOL.
ChrisBcritter Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 My boss is there right now; said no money to buy this year but still worth it for the show. I'll agree with that; it was worth the price of admission to have seen (1) Reggie Jackson get booed by the audience when he started to gripe about his cars not hitting reserve, and (2) Jay Leno getting pissed off at the bidders when a charity car he was guest-auctioneering wasn't getting bid up enough. Checked the Automobilia docket and there aren't any great models; about all they have is a case of new-in-the-box '82 Corvette promos. They did have a duplicate of my childhood pedal car:
Richard Bartrop Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I used to watch it when it was on Speed, but the cable company wants extra for Velocity, so not any more.
Junkman Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I love to watch this stuff. My favourite is Mecum on the day they flog the chod for normal mortals.
58 Impala Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I don't watch, some of the prices are ridiculous. Makes even the the lesser models out of reach for the average guy. And pushes most younger car enthusiasts towards imports.

Richard Bartrop Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I'm a little boggled at the amount of effort it probably took to make a Cadillac that ugly
cobraman Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 So I'm watching just now and they bring up a drag Cobra ( Dragon snake ? ) and what do they do ? They go to a commercial !!! I think it sold for 550,000.
iamsuperdan Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I love it all, but personally, I'd want to go on the first night or two; Wednesday or whatever. Those cars are still nice, but have reasonable prices. Cars I wouldn't be afraid to take out for a cruise. I've seen a couple of BJ cars. One was immaculate, one was a great 20ft car, and needed a lot of work to get it right..
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I've had the television tuned exclusively to the Velocity channel since Tuesday. I figure that it beats the heck out of what's on every other channel. Hmmm, let's see. 10:00 PM, Barrett Jackson, Pawn Stars or the Golden Girls!! Not a difficult decision! Steve
Bill J Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I live about 10 miles from where they have the Barrett-Jackson auction and I have never been to it in person. I do watch. I think they favor certain sellers and definitely put the best cars up on Saturday. More money spent and bid on Saturdays. I actually prefer cars I can drive and maybe come close to affording, which is why I prefer the Mecum actions, more realistic.
Mr mopar Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Wow those Superbirds are going up in price ...................... I guess i'll never be able to buy one
High octane Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I'm not watching the auction as I have no more room in my garage and my checkbook is a little light this week.
Richard Bartrop Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) I checked, and Velocity was in free preview mode, so I partook. Edited January 21, 2018 by Richard Bartrop
