Lee Yoder Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Good afternoon all, I am getting back into the hobby after reading Chris Sobak's awesome thread on his Army Vega. It has been probably 30 years since I completed a kit. I am in no way at his skill level, but I am going to relearn the basics and go from there. My intention is to make this an Out of the Box, clean as possible build, but I already have a blower hat on order due to damage to the kit piece during the packaging process. With that, I may look at stainless lines and A/N fittings. Also, my work schedule will make bench time a premium. As soon as I can figure out how to post pics, I will have an update. Later, Lee
Lee Yoder Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 First pic is my "workbench". Second pic is damaged Blower Hat. Third pic is progress today. Later, Lee
Mooneyzs Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) Lee.. so glad to see you starting this build. Going to be good one. Let me know of you want me to send you an injector hat from my Prudhomme kit.i would be more than happy too. Edited January 27, 2018 by Mooneyzs
Lee Yoder Posted January 27, 2018 Author Posted January 27, 2018 Thanks Chris, I ordered one from Comp Resins already. Any chance you have one of those printed blower belts? I'll gladly reimburse you. I know the rubber band in the kit will play hell even with CA glue. GoatGuy, thanks for the encouragement. Later, Lee
StyreneAddict420 Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Great to see you getting back into the Hobby, you couldn't have picked a better project to start. That is a great kit and a really fun build. Good luck and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more project pics along the way
Lee Yoder Posted January 27, 2018 Author Posted January 27, 2018 Thanks Robert, just the simple act of cleaning mold lines and ejector pin marks felt good. Later, Lee

No shortage of mold seams to clean off the chassis rails, but far better than the Aurora kit. Are you planning to lower the rear of the body a bit? The nose was always a challenge on this kit for me, as it was a balance between leaving a nice crisp edge for the "bumper" or fully molding it in (as it should be) and masking it off perfectly.

Casey, My plan is to mold and mask the front bumpers. Thanks for looking! Later, Lee
jeff f Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Remember to have fun and enjoy your bench time . I would use the Scale Auto build as your template . Jeff.

Thanks Jeff, that is the intention. I built quite a lot from the time I was twelve until I joined the Navy. Then, well, life happened. I have learned a lot from this forum and I want to improve my skills and have fun. Later, Lee
Lee Yoder Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 (edited) Well, got some bench time yesterday, more body prep and chassis glue up. Rear end splayed out so much that it will not hold the rear body panel, so that needs fixing. Also de-chromed some parts, really surprised when I saw the plastic is almost translucent Later, Lee Edited February 16, 2018 by Lee Yoder Content
Mooneyzs Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Lee... Looking good. You are making some good progress. Keep up the great work.

Sorry, not yet, work has been hard and heavy, with medical appointments for my wife to boot. I am currently awaiting a new 9" rear from shapeways as the Halibrand kit rear is incorrect. I will have some time in the next week or so, so I will probably do some chassis work as the body supports are out of whack. Thanks for keeping me accountable Later, Lee
Mr mopar Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Lee your car looks good ,I'm glad I could help you find a rear end !............................ I got this kit on my beach right now , going to make the Wild man Willie Borsch with a 392 Hemi .
dragalley Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Lee, looking good so far. Let me know if you need some other kit pieces. I have a parts box for the funny cars and dragsters and may have extra parts if you need them.
GoatGuy Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Lee, hope all is well and you'll have time to work on this build soon.
Lee Yoder Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 Thanks Goat, I am well, but time to build just doesn’t seem to be available to me. I will try to get some progress done soon! Later, Lee
