Snake45 Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 I'm getting the urge to try to convert a late 4-door Charger into a proper 2-door. I think I want a 2011 or newer, with the scooped sides. Is there a 1/25-1/24 kit available? Only thing close I could find is a Revell kit that seems to be a generation earlier and not as good looking. Did I miss a later one while not paying attention? How about a relatively inexpensive diecast in 1/24 or thereabouts? Would be much harder to do the 2-door conversion on a diecast, but not impossible.
Rob Hall Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) There are only diecasts available of the '11 and up models. Motormax and Maisto have made the '11-14 style w/ the gunsight grille and Welly has made the '15-18 style. Of the older 2006 era versions, Revell made a simplified custom and Testors made a full detail kit (full detail--also boxed as Lindberg). Edited January 28, 2018 by Rob Hall

I actually prefer the '15-'18 style, and Welly seems to do nice work at a good price point, so that gives me something to look for. I hope it doesn't have opening doors--that would complicate the conversion considerably.
Rob Hall Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Looks like the front doors open. https://www.diecastmodelswholesale.com/search.php?search_query=welly+charger&Search=Search
jefropas Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) Walmart had a plastic 1/24th scale 2011-2014 Charger, actually a really nice body mold, with no interior, pull back racer, and lights in the toy section for almost a year. It was a police car, but swap out the wheels and its pretty nice. And, it was $5... Jeff Edited January 28, 2018 by jefropas

Actually, even the wheels seem decent (to me, at least), just need to hit them with some silver. (And yes, as usual for most of my purchases, I haven't followed through with my plan on these. Furthest I got is disassembling one and removing the push bar, trunk spoiler and light bar) Snake, as much as you like getting budget diecasts from Wal-Mart, these should be right up your alley. To me, they're so cheap that they're worth buying just for the enjoyment of screwing around with them. If you botch one up and destroy it, it's no big loss, unlike a $30 kit. iBorg Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Hmmmmm........I could see going to Walmart for that.
niteowl7710 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 FWIW the new Welly '15+ Chargers are NOT 1/24 scale by a large margin. Which isn't surprising for them, as seemingly nothing they ever do really is...heck the box art says "1:24-27" on it...I guess it's a sliding scale now? Definitely is on the 1/27th end of things.

That's not necessarily a deal breaker for me. I have several diecasts and a couple kits both that are in that 1/26-27 area.

Maisto is the same way- the scale on the box seems to be more of an average than an actual number.
niteowl7710 Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Well ya know how it goes, some people don't care, some people insist the difference between 24th and 25th is a like 1/35th vs. 1/72nd...
